    Lyman gas check seater

So in your opinion is the Lyman gas check seater worth it? The one that snaps in on the bottom of the 450/4500. Also, will it fit on a RCBS LAM 1 or 2? I was actually thinking of cutting a old socket to fit instead of buying one. Let me know what you think.

    Thanks,
    Jeff / Slingshot

A cut socket will work. It certainly works to seat a gas check but is it faster and better....I am still deciding.

The Lyman is hard tool steel, I like them.

Thanks for the info. Any clue if it will fit on an RCBS LAM 2?

They work fine but you must be careful not to lean too hard on the bullet. Very easy to 'bump' them especially with soft alloy. For the most part you shouldn't need one.

Haven't used mine in over 10 years ... too slow and cumbersome. Lee Lube/Sizer is my tool to apply GC's

What I found is the type of GC you are usen for not really have to use on .Like the lyman GC I found it is best to use the tool and the crimp on ones you might get away with out usen one but i use it anyways because i am sure the GC seat right. That is what works with me

It helps seat them straight, even though it requires an extra step. Worth it for me.

I use the Lyman GC seater on one of my 450s all the time if the GC shank does not bottom out in the GC prior to sizing. Surprising how crooked GCs can end up if not seated correctly prior to crimping. I used to thing pushing them through a Lee sizer would set them correctly. Found out it is dependent on the shank fit into the GC, the hardness of the bullet, the resistance of the bullet to sizing (how much sizing is done) and some other factors. I pre-seat all my GCs, especially the crimp ons, on bullets when the best accuracy is wanted, rifle and handgun. The Lyman GC tool is quick and easy to use with the 450. I've no idea if it works with a RCBS LAM but something should be easy to make if the Lyman doesn't.

I use a 7.63x 39 steel case. Cut the base off with a dremel tool and section it vertically enough to snap around the adjustment screw then using a file trim so you have maybe an 1/8th inch of up down play. Works every bit as good as the commercially sold ones and if you ever lose one.... With all the steel AK casings lying about, make another.

Same here but came with my 4500.
On hard to get on straight ones I have a die that screws into the Rockchucker press and had 3 parts that you can chose from to slide in where a shell holder goes. It works magic . I can not remember who made them but was using it last night.
Maybe he she will chime in as it was a great product
