    338 caliber NOE 234 & 261 gr Loverin Design

Al over at NOE is looking for buyers of Loverin style bullet for 338 caliber in two weights.

    http://noebulletmolds.com/smf/index....pic,340.0.html

The short (1.135) version will fit within the neck of the 338 Federal, 338/06 and 338 Winchester Mag. other Magnums (Rem, Ruger) but, will not fit the 338 Marlin Express. The long one will fit the 338/06 and any other case with a neck longer than .415.

C'mon guys... Lord knows we're limited to choices for the .338 caliber.
Having a quality out fit like NOE helping out so often is something many of us could only dream of for many years. Thanks, Al...Things have never been better as far as selection and choices go.

I have the 201 & new 230 so depends on how they shoot on my interest. I am making a 338-06 so that may need a different bullet. So, I'm a maybe.

I'd be into it if they could be had at .331" for paper patching up to throat size.

I realise this sounds like a "newbie" talking, but if I knew which weight would work fairly well in both my .338 Win. Mag. and my .338-06 I would probably be in for getting it. I fully realise 1 weight may work in 1 rifle cal. and not in another different cal. rifle. I can`t swing both molds on my "allowance".Robert

The shorter one is the only one that will work in both your calibers. The throat design is very similar in both the 338/06 and the 338 Win. Mag. and will fit the throat the same when crimped at the band that says "in case". When I designed it, I checked out all the calibers for neck length and throat. The 338/06 is the only cartridge that I found that has a long neck and therefore the longer bullet is limited to that cartridge.

Both the designs should have the same accuracy potenial but, the longer one has a higher sectional density that gives it just a bit better ballistic coefficient and would have a little less wind drift at longer ranges as well as deeper penetration.

Get a LEE sizing die and squeeze'em down. I turn .459's into .452's for my 45-70

We now have at least 8, possibly 10 buyer for this mold so, it should go into production soon.

    Come on board

    Ben,
It's the upper picture in the NOE link but, I'll post both here, plus the PB version.

The 261 gr one doesn't look promising for a group buy and it can't be made with the same cherry as the shorter one. Only one other person is interested in it. I thought there would be more people out there with 338-06 rifles.

Ben, Frank's drawings are viewable after logging in. I don't think they are available unless you're signed in with your NOE Forum ID (free and easy for anyone interested reading this thread).
    Take care.

For those that are interested in the 261 gr mold, please join the NOE forum. You get a 15% discount that way, too Then sign up on the above link and state that you want the 261 gr bullet. I would join in on it but, my rifles twist (15) won't handle it.

    I believe my barrel in my new 338-06 is a 1-10 ? ?

Let me check to be certain before I commit.

The shorter bullet (338 x 1.135) just went into the Active Buy list over at NOE and is on the schedule to be made.

Anyone interested can still get on the list.

Say frnkeore, where did you find a 1:15 twist 338 barrel? I have been wanting to get something similar for a while now, and 1:10 is about all there is out there outside of Kreiger and a year long wait.

    Thanks!

I'm afraid that I can't be of any help to you. I bought my barrel blank at a gun show. It was marked 338 x 10 (no manufactors name) but, AFTER I installed it, I checked it out, slugged it and it was .337 x 15. The reason I bought it was that it look so good inside. I'm a slow learner, that has happened to me two other times with 25 cal barrels.
