As Sgt. Schultz would say, "Velly interesting"?Robert
Based on experience with Loverin-type bullets in several different diameters, AND my high respect for the .338 bore, AND some highly-satisfactory NOE moulds......
Heavens, YES..... I'd be interested.
My sole remaining .338 rifle happens to be a left-handed Savage M116.....stainless, fluted, "on-off" muzzle brake.
A moderate number of cast-bullet loads FROZE that muzzle brake in the "on" position years ago, and even the most heroic methods (short of an acetylene torch) did NOT free it up. Therefore, I have a rifle with a permanent muzzle brake.
It also happens to be the most-accurate sporting rifle I have EVER owned, in a very long string of years and rifles. It consistently groups three TSX 225s UNDER 1/2" from 100 yards.... CONSISTENTLY.
Seems to me it would be an excellent test-bed for some cast shooting. I have about five other .338 moulds here already (several Lymans, plus NEI, LBT, etc.)
A nice NOE Loverin would be a very valuable addition to the stew.

So, does a cast bullet make sense in a .338 win mag for serious hunting? I thought that the case was too big. Besides unique loads for grouse, I mean.
Noob question.
I think you could probaly get 2000 fps with hunting accuracy (2" @ 100) with the 234 gr bullet in any case it will fit in (338 Fed, 338/06 or 338 Mag) and I don't think that's anything to sneeze at. I doubt that a Elk would now much differance from that or the 250 gr @ 2700 fps. Brown bears might like it a little better than the factory loads if you got them real excited before you pull the trigger.
