    pixie dust

Is it normal to get a lot of aluminum dust when punching out gas checks?

Is the aluminum corroded? I'm making 22cal, 35 and 45 cal checks on Free Chex III tools and get none. I get some fine fragments but no "dust". I'm using lithoplate that is real clean.

I've made a few hundred gas checks with a homemade tool, using .008" aluminum printing plate material and I have not noticed any aluminum dust.

Here are the pics, unfortunately this is after only about 300. There was a lot more after the first 1000 but I cleaned it up before starting again

I think most of what you have there is caused by dragging the strips through the die for punching. Basically, it is deburring the sharp edges of the strips as you pull them through.

I get some of it on my CheckMaker too, though I have a different press setup so I think most of mine falls on the bench and floor.
