What is a Smith & Wesson Highway Patrolman Pre-Model 28. Trying to figure out the pre-model 28 part.
Usually that indicates that the gun was manufactured prior to the use of model numbers by Smith and Wesson some time in the early 60's or late 50's one of the resident smith collectors will know.

If some one does know. I have a S&W 357 Mag MOD.28-2 with no serial numbers on the butt of the gun, like I have seen on some. They might be underneath the grip if removed. However there is a serial number between the crane and the frame. It starts with an N.
I believe 1957 was the start of the model #'s. I have S&W's back into the 1800's, and I think all of mine have serial #'s on the butt of the grip frame. You might get more info in the handgun section too. Good luck.
