    .45-60 OK to shoot in .45-70 1886?

I have an 1876 in .45-60 that I have been reloading for some time now.
I have been trimming .45-70 brass down and don't have any more .45-70 brass.
I just picked up a Browning 1886 SRC in .45-70.
What do you think about running the .45-60 through the 1886?

I shoot 1.8" brass length out of my 45-70. I worked up my load just like any other new ammo/gun combination. Indiana requires brass length less than 1.8" to be legal for deer.

Same as 38/357, 44spec/44 mag or 45colt/454/460. Just clean the chamber well before shooting full length cases.

Rim diameter & case lengths are different between the 45-60 & 45-70, the 45-60 being 0.629 and the 45-70 being 0.60. Is the 45-60 going to chamber in the 45-70?
If it does, be sure to seat the 45-60 bullet long to compensate for the leade difference from the end of the case between the 2 calibers

    Hey Dlbarr,

I'm pretty sure it is 460-400L.

I would need to dig it out of the safe to make sure 100%.

I think he's been cutting down 45-70 brass so rim diameter shouldn't be an issue. Leade issues vary, my RD 460-350's don't seem to mind making a little jump in my Guide Gun but that's something to consider.

I had a similar situation back in the day when I could not get 405 brass and had to make them out of 30-40 Krag cases blown out to be straight. Problem was they finished up 1/4" short. They worked ok, but I had to make sure that the front of the chamber was kept clean. The Lyman 412263 bullet couldn't be seated far enough out to make up the difference, but s previously stated, it worked until Hornady started to produce 405 cases. LLS
