How bright is this light? What kind of mounts will the kit include? I've been looking at lights for an AR15 carbine.

you are after the original with the rail mount in the other buy. this one has a mount to put the light directly over the scope and another that is a barrel clamp to put the light under the barrel. The rail mount for the original is designed specifically with ARs in mind.

The Hunter is slightly bigger in diameter and longer than the original by a couple inches. The reason for this is a much deeper reflector designed to throw light a greater distance. Overall output is less than the original but where the original is pure flood the hunter is pure throw and is much more focused and is designed for hunting game at night (where legal). To understand the differences, you have to go into the technical. What is typically called "Throw" or the distance a light will travel more properly called etendue is a combination of reflector width and depth, and surface brightness of the die(emitter). Note, I didn't say overall output. For this reason the wider and deeper a reflector gets the more focused the beam is. In most cases a light with an exceptionally wide reflector is cumbersome so using a deep reflector is more common as is the case here. the original is about 1/2 an inch deep. The Hunter is closer to 2 inches in reflector depth. This makes for a tighter beam and a light that will light up objects more distant to the source but results in less spill or light in the immediate area around the source (sides).

Surface brightness is a combination of overall output of the light vs size of the emitter surface. In this case we want the brightest and smallest combination rather than the thing that puts out the absolute most light. XMLs or XPL emitters put out more overall light than an XRE but the XRE has a die that is 1/6 the size of those so the surface brightness is higher although the overall output is not.

By combining the small emitter with a deep reflector this light will focus a beam of white or green light an easy 200 yards and will make eyes visible as much as 400 yards away. With the red emitter it is capable of 100+ yards but the wavelength has its limits on distance as red light doesnt carry particularly well and requires a ton of power to make a true long range lamp.

The kit contains a mount to hold the light over the scope and a mount to hold it under the barrel along with a momentary pressure switch to allow for turning it on and off without changing the shooters position.

This model is the same style and body as the XL250 or W400 that are advertised by others at much higher prices and mine works just as well.

How long is the pressure switch wire? I've only got one hand so I have to set it up different than most would.
I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

Just so I am clear in my thought process:

    1. Does changing colors require swapping out lenses?

    2. Can this unit be used without the pressure switch? (Used as a hand held light)

    3. Waterproof?

    4. This is a one battery unit but there will be batteries total?

Watching. Also interested in all grain's questions. I think this is just what I want for Florida hog hunting at night.

1.) Unscrew head and replace emitter (it screws in). No colored Lenses involved.
2.)yes, it comes with a standard tailcap as well as the pressure switch
    3.) yes
4.) uses one at a time and comes with 2 so one in the light and one in the charger.

I'll take some pictures of an emitter swap so you have a better idea of whats involved.
