I am interested in powder coating. I shoot action pistol and the smoke from typical grease lubes is horrible. I have a few questions. How many bullets, such as 45 cal can be done with a pound of your powder? Can I size after coating? I would think the coating will add a couple of thousandths to the diameter. I have a Star and Lyman sizer. What are the BB's for, and do I really need them? Does any particular color of yours stick the best?

I am able to pick up in bits and pieces on what to do, but is there a thread or a Youtube video, on the full coating procedure, and what equipment and supplies I will need to use your powders? Mods, if this post is on the wrong thread, feel free to move it.

a lb of clear PC will get you 8,000 to 10,000 bullets coated AFTER you have learned the process.. You will use more early on developing your method
colored powders will get you 6,000 to 8,00 bullets
yes you can size after coating

BBs help develop static and cushion the bullets

Clear is by far my best powder for easy complete coverage.. followed my the 2 blues and 2 greens

Pre heat Convection oven to 400 degrees

The way I Dry Tumble is to get a plastic container with snap on lid that has a triangle and #5 stamped on the bottom (this is VERY important to get acceptable static) I have gone to using Ziplock S Round (2 cup) twist lock containers (Rubbermaid equilavent will NOT holdup) , Others use cool whip containers
add enough BLACK 25 gram Airsoft BB's top cover about 1/2" deep on bottom .. (2 to 3 layers deep)
add 1 teaspoon of powder for cool whip containers (for the first load ONLY). 1/2 teaspoon is more than enough for S Round Containers
add 50 to 100 bullets . The smaller ones like 223 would be 100 larger like 45 ACP 230's might only be 30 at a time
snap on lid and swirl the container to the count of 30 then shake fairly hard up and down to the count of 30
lift lid, Pick up bullets one at a time with long needle nose pliers .. Tap pliers on container edge to shake off excess powder back into container
Just started doing this with double layered bowls glued together
Speed up process, knocks off excess powder so you don’t have to tap bullets on container, and leave just the bullets in the bowl for easy pickings

Put bullets on cookie sheet lined with Non stick foil (will last many many cycles)
Put in oven for 15 minutes . pull out let cool and put in a bullet box

Oven .. You need to be sure what temp the Oven is actually cooking at... your aim is between 375 and 400 degrees
Oven needs to be preheated before putting bullets in .. I found my oven take approx. 8 minutes to reach 380 degrees
do a few small batches say 10 bullets till you find what temp YOUR over gives a nice even flow to the powder.. too cool and you get clumps.. to hot and you get nice looking colored clumps melted lead puddles..
a convection oven with a fan to distribute the heat evenly throughout the oven will give you an almost sprayed slick look..

Blue Nitrile gloves can be used to pick up bullets .. So far other gloves have proven to not work ( they will remove powder everywhere the gloves touch )
Or you can always buy a Harbor Freight Electrostatic PC gun for about 59.00 on sale.. This will give you the smoothest finish.. just more setup and cleanup time

NOTE:
At Extreme Hi Velocities you may get black streaking. It the PC Coating smearing .. The only product we have found to clean this quickly and easily is BORE TECH ELIMINATOR

Almost two years after buying your powders I finally got everything in to cast and coat. I followed your directions (tumble with BB's) for the signal blue and ended up with exceptional coverage. Being a bit picky I applied a second coat and ended up with perfect coverage all the way around including the bases. I quickly followed with Flame red, two coats (not needed just picky) and found the need for a white to complete the set. Harbor Freight white can't compare to your powders but it gave me red, white and blue for a Fourth of July shoot. I ran 235gr. 45 ACP @ 850fps and 188gr. 10MM @ 1270fps, both barrels look like they just came off the cleaning bench after 250+ rounds each. Recovered bullets from both guns showed each held on to their coating even after expanding and the rifling showed no indications of cutting through the coating. I also have yellow/green and traffic orange, both coat well but again I think I am going to stay with the two coat application process, the color is more true and more appealing to me with the second coat. These colors will debut on the range in October for our Zombie shoot so I will need a black to go with orange and green. When the purple and black come back Ill need to order clear, purple, black and pink. I can't think of a better option for coatings, Thank You!
