Ps make sure all the acetone is evaporated. It will aoak into the bullets then outgas when bullet is heated causing the coating to either wrinkle or bubble

Sounds great, and thanks for the tip. Will clean the boolits and let em sit for a few hours before I give this a shot. I'm still a virgin PCer so I'm sure I'll screw it up somewhere.

No website .. I am a small time shop selling to casters here .. Not some big multi location mega store..
EVERY powder is tested for shake and bake and general performance in shooting BEFORE I will sell them

No pics yet, will upload later. Did my first batch of 20 using your clear and your instructions to a T. Results are outstanding, and it's just crazy to me how you can watch the coating go from a powdered sugar to a clear right before your eyes. This is awesome! Thanks again Smoke. I'll likely order some other colors here soon if I can get past my prejudices.

I am new to coating, and this was my first try with Smoke's powder.

300 grain 45 Colt from a Lee mould. I am pretty impressed with how simple the process is, and how good the results are.



A couple of questions:

-Does the color of the BBs in the container matter?

-I ended up with a few bullets that had a few globs on them. Do I need to shake the bullets off before putting them in the oven to bake?

-How do you all transfer the bullets from the shake container to the baking sheet? I used needle nosed pliers as I was trying not to disturb the powder.

-Does it matter much if the bullets are laying on their sides or if you stand them on their bases? I did a few of each on this initial run, but didn't see a ton of difference.

Again, I am pleasantly surprised how easy this was. Can't wait to get a few loaded/shoot some.

And one final question...no need to fit a gas check with the powder coating in place, correct? I will not be pushing these very hard anyway.

looks like you have a little too much powder on the bullets. after sixing they will shoot just fine .. If having a nice slick looking finish is not an issue for you keep doing what you are doing as they coated just fine
now if you are after that sprayed on look (IE really smooth finish) you need to get the excess powder off somehow. There are 2 ways I am familiar with
simple no cost but more time consuming method is to tap the bullet on the side of the shaking container while picking out with tweezers or pliers letting the excess powder fall back into the shaking container
second method is to get 3 or 4 paper bowls glue them together
cut/punch .30 Dia holes all around inside to make a paper colander.
After shaking the bullets with powder and BBS dump them, powder and BBs in the paper bowl
shake the paper bowl to let the powder and BBS fall thru. Of course collecting them in a bowl below to be transferred back to the original sake and bake bowl.
now you paper bowl will only have the coated bullets and they are easy to pick up.. I have found this method to get me a very consistent thickness bullet to bullet and ends with a very slick looking finish

If you don't mind, I learned this from a youtube video. I took one of those desk organizers made out of what appears to be just metal screening, and used that to shake the excess off. I dumped the airsoft BB's and the boolits in there, held it over cardboard, and jiggled it back and forth a few times. The clear did have that almost "sprayed on" slick look. I wish I would have taken pics before I shot them, but I was too excited. I've got another batch to cook up this week and will do them the same way and will post pics.

Received my order today. Coated some with both powders. I had high hopes for the yellow but looks like the future is clear for me. I got the yellow to stick (with slightly more effort than the clear) but it still cured a bit uneven. Same S&B application method and cured together. Just better results with the clear because there is no pigment? I know it looks like maybe too much powder but will that cause it to not cover well?

Try heating the BARE bullets to 140 degrees (NO MORE than 150 or you will have mess) then let cool for about 5 minutes then dump the bullets in the powder
believe you will see an improvement in coverage .. Try it with a small 10 to 20 bullets just to see the results
