Greetings, a friend has a Browning M78 in 30-30 and he wants it rechambered in 30-40 Krag. Any one know what the barrel twist is in the M78 30-30 barrel? Thanks!

Nope. But you could figure it out in about 5 minutes with a cleaning rod and a tight fitting patch.
Less than 5 minutes actually but I don't have the rifle here. Just something that occurred to me this morning but through my google-fu it looks like a "normal" 30-30 twist would be 10 or 12. Hope its 10 but 12 would work.
REALLY ? AFAIK, Browning never chambered their Model 78 in .30-30 Winchester - the only .30 chambering was the for .30-06 Springfield.
The only factory-chambered rimmed cartridge in the B78 was the .45-70 - all the rest were rimless or belted magnum bartridges.
If he truely has a B78 in the rimmed .30-30 Winchester, then he needs to measure the twist himself, as it has to be an aftermarket/custom barrel.
.
The 1885 Traditional Hunter came in 30/30 but not the B-78. Same platform but different model.
Thanks Pietro, It struck me as strange that a rifle like that would be chambered in 30-30, now it strikes me even more strangely that someone would choose to have a custom barrel installed in such a caliber. Can't wait to see this one.
Hey Bullshop!! Thanks, OK maybe its a second hand information error.
.
Could be - the B-78 and the M-1885 actions look very similar to the uninitiated (but the B-78 buttstock is vastly different, with a Monte Carlo comb & cheekpiece)
Also B78 barrels were either 26" heavy/round or 26" tapered octagon, except for the .45-70, which had a 24" straight octagon bbl.
FWIW, there's a newer (than the 1970's) Browning B-78 (2004 ? ) that was actually a rebadged M-1885 with 24" untapered octagon bbl's.
