    relubing bullets

Hey all, I am some what new to reloading and have a question for you all. I have 30 or so .459 405gr gas checked cast bullets from Red river bullets. They worked well in my sharps with smokeless powder but I would like to try them will Black powder do I need to relube them (I have some SPG lube and been reading about pan lubing) if I do need to relube how do I get the old lube off? Can I just throw them in an oven at a low temp and melt it off? or should I just stick with smokeless till I get some molds for the casting set up I am getting together. Thank for your help, Rick.

I agree. A good rolling boil will take it right off. I put a little Dawn in there to help the lube release.

I use boiling water and Dawn, but I DON'T boil them. I got a foaming mess the first and last time. I get the water to boiling, turn off the heat, mix in the Dawn and pour it onto the bullets in a pan. The lube just floats off. Let it sit until cool enough to handle.
You said "gas check bullets", but you didn't say they had gas checks on them. I do use some gas check bullets but without gas checks.
Have fun with BP, I've found it to perform very well and clean up isn't nearly as difficult as you may imagine.
