Ok... so I realize this is somewhat pointless in terms of effectiveness. But I had to try it. #00 Buckshot.
Easiest stuff to powdercoat EVER. Just toss them in a tub with a spoon of Smoke's PC powder and swirl them around - no need for airsoft BB's, they tumble coat perfectly well on their own.

This should make an acceptable 'Merica load for a friend's 4"-bore cannon on the 4th!!

Got some Smoke's orange in this week. I like it!

    NOE 432-265 RG2

    NOE 35XCB

And about 10#of random boolits in the red/yellow mix that I was using before I got the actual orange in.

Thanks to the thousands of comments from many of you guys on this forum, I took the plunge and tried powder coating my own this past weekend. It went pretty well! Easier than i thought it would be... there's absolutely no need to stay on the fence about doing this, for those of you who are. I thought the whole process was easy as pie.

I'll post more pics in a sec, I tried a couple tumbling methods. These are Mihec 452-200 hollow points, which I tumbled in a vibratory tumbler... about 1 quart of bullets and some HF Red powder (some blue got in there too, tried to tumble some blue ones in a ziplock bag in a smaller batch and the ziplock gave out lol).

I found that I could put about a quart container of bullets in my harbor freight tumbler with some powder... didn't measure the amount but I'd bet on it being around 3-4 tablespoons which was more than enough. No bb's, just bullets and powder in the tumbler, per a youtube video I'd watched. Then I'd let it go 10-20 minutes vibrating in the vibratory tumbler while I did other stuff. Dump the bullets into a colander after that, shake and sift the big batch of bullets to separate from excess powder... the bullets stayed very well coated, and the powder went back into the tumbler.

I'd then put the colander on my bench, and use bent tweezers to pick the bullets out by their hollow point and nose, placed individually onto baking trays. I found that I could load a tray of 150-200 in about 10 minutes no problem. So every 10 minutes a new tray was going in for a 20 minute bake, and after I got going every 10 minutes a tray was coming out as well. I baked for 20 minutes at 400F per the instructions on the HF Red container.

They came out pretty well I think. Definitely not ESPC, and not quite as pretty as some of you guys' results, but I bet they'll size and shoot just fine.

My first test of PC. HF red, shake & bake, stupid easy. Not sure it will replace my Star & lube, but nice to have options for diff calibers. Thanks for the tips & tricks.

I will join this party too here are some 405 grain bullets sized for a Marlin Micro grove 45-70. First time coating and it went pretty good. HF yellow, the alloy is 50/50 but they are BHN 8 before and after baking.
Oh great, another thread that makes me spend money.

I don't really know, Dave. I believe they are some sort of Candy Apple Red from PowderBuyThePound. When I first started coating (before I found Smoke's great powders), I bought several different powders from guys on fleabay who were powdercoating lug nuts for ATV's and motorcycles. I wrote to the guys and they sold me small 1/4 lb packets of their powders to test, and this red was just one of those samples that I bought. I asked this one guy several times and even had some other folks ask him and he would never confirm nor deny that it was PowderBuyThePound red that he was using. The candy apple color doesn't bake at 400° though, it'll smoke and scorch and get brittle. It does well at 360-370° though and feels like a nice smooth rubber coated boolit after it cures. It sizes very easily too. But I don't have any more and only coated about 150 boolits with that sample that I got.

I pretty much coated two batches of those that you show, and these (using fender washer method. pic is before gas checks were put on), and then I ran out.

I like them so I made 2000 more.
Time to make more ingots. Everything seems to go as planned, because I planned for 2 years before actually starting casting and coating. It's incredible - I now have another hobby within a hobby.

There's an airsoft Beretta 92FS as a yardstick for scale.

Overkill! I put PB gas checks on the boolits before I sized and then decided to ESPC them. I can only guess that the paint on the cola cans kept it from transferring a great spark, as mine was very weak and the nose is beautiful but it didn't stick to the driving bands very well at all. So I just decided to run em through the luber, just to make sure this batch was shootable. And the results look kinda cool, but it isn't recommended, as it is double the work for the same boolit.

Oh... and that's my famous Tiger Stripe lube. That's what you get when you change the lube in the sizer without melting the previous lube out first. The first hundred or so boolits are striped until the new lube fills all the channels.
