lyman dies in stars for pc boolits

I know this has been touched on before and the response is the star bushing would be to thin. This has got me thinking.
With myself and others pc'ng we do not need lube or lube holes per se.
To get around the issue of the bushing being thin why could we not just turn the OD of the lyman or rcbs dies much smaller and use an e clip on top of the star sized die. The star sizer die could be much thicker walled this way and one could use multiple lyman dies in the same star holder.
I have never tried this as i never pc'd to couple months ago and never wanted to try to get around the lube hole issue.
I know i could purchase new or used dies for the star or make them but having a collection of multiple lyman type dies laying around make me think.
Maybe i'm just looking for an excuse to get some lathe time in.

If you don't lube, it should work, just find the right cir-clip.

It will work. I turned a bushing from brass the same size as a star die then bored a through hole about 9/16", then turned a flat step recess in the top. Next turned the OD of the lyman die down to just under 9/16" for a snug fit into the brass bushing and turned a step flange on top of the die to fit the recess in the brass bushing so it stops downward movement of the inner die.
No e-clip required with the flange. After making this die bushing and installing in the star i realized my 101 year old south bend will not cut a 27 tpi thread for a top punch. 26 and 28 is as close as it will cut. I need to find a 54 tooth 16 dp 14-1/4° spur gear to make a top punch with the correct thread. The smallest top punch i have is .356 so it will not go into the .309 die i turned down. Now the hunt is on for a gear. I could hob one out but dont like making gears, takes to long w/ a fly cutter.
