    45 Colt Molds

I love molds. Seeing them line my mold shelf fills me with a nice warm fuzzy feeling. I particularly enjoy my 41mag and 45 colt molds. They are what I shoot the most.

I have been 45 colt mold poor for a while and am waiting on a few more to arrive (I've been working on that). I am basically looking for molds to fill any "gaps" that I may have in common configurations and weights.

    So far I have:

    MP 45-270-SAA
MP 454-297 with solid and Penta pin
    NOE 454-255-RF

    I am waiting on:
RCBS-255-SWC that I recently bought of the S&S from shoot-n-lead. Hoping to have later this week.

    Group Buys:
    MP 454-640
    MP 454-308
MP Ruger Only 327gr WFN (is there a mold # designation for this one yet)

I pulled out of the MP 454-423. Should I sign back up for it?

    Thanks guys.

What is a 454-297? Sounds interesting.

Its the "Ruger Only" MP mold that was originally done a few years ago.

So is that the same mold as the current ruger-only GB running now?

Yes, It's a rerun. I love that mold. I have a 2c brass GC with penta HP in it right now. I'm also on that GB for a PB this go around.

I was signed up for it but switched over to the 454640. I've came to the conclusion that I just don't like the recoil of 300+ grain full-power loads.

If my 5.5" Bisley had a slightly longer, heavier barrel, I might could enjoy a bit more recoil, but right now I'm thinking a 275-grain bullet (NOE 45-270-SAA HP) at 1200' or so is about my threshold.

Have you considered the Lee 255gr RNFP? I have a six banger and use it to cast a volume of practice boolits, I know it's a cheapie but it does work well, I use the 45-270-saa for hunting though.

I'd imagine the NOE is very similar in design.

I think if .45 Colt bullets give you a warm fuzzy feeling, that is one you need.

My original plan was to have the NOE 453423 for solids and the MP 454423 for weight control with multi-nose cavity hollowpoints - both in .45ACP. Getting it to feed wasn't a problem, but getting it to feed pretty without nose damage was, so I backed out of the MP buy and will use the NOE solid exclusively for wheelguns.

What it will give you in the .45 Colt is a (relatively) low-weight/low recoil plinker with enough meplat to knock the snot out of whatever it hits. It'll be an awesome .45 AR or snubbie slug. Eventually, I plan to see how it does at 650fps out of a Webley.
    WWJMBD?

In the Land of Oz, we cast with wheel weight and 2% Tin, Man.
