    stock ID

Anyone have any idea of what this stock belongs to? It's 31 1/2" long. No markings except for the number 68.

It looks to me like a Mosin Nagant Dragoon stock that has been heavily modified and made to fit a left handed bolt action receiver from another rifle. The "68" is probably an arsenal marking. The lack of sling slots and recoil lug crossbolt are like a dragoon. I don't know what that piece of hardware is and cant really tell from the pic where it is located. Right side of grip?

That round piece goes right through the stock.

Looks like an 03 springfield. Someone cut the stock going to put a bigger piece in to make a pistolgrip, and it never happened.

I think you're right. A closer look at the first pic I think I see where the recoil lug bolt and rear sling mount are, just like an 03. fuzzy pics make it tough. And the "modifications" are actually original springfield.

I paid $4.80 for it at a flea market. I figured the barrel band spring was worth that. Nice old stock.
    Thanks for the IDs.

Early 1903 springfield, for sure. Sure is ruined with that huge chunk cut out of it.

Apparently that pistol grip modification wasn't too uncommon. I've seen a couple over the years and some were so well done that you could hardly tell that it wasn't stock. Some... well you can guess as to how they looked.

That depression on the left side that the OP thought might have been for a left hand bolt is actually for the magazine cut-off/bolt release lever.
