Old IMR Hi-Vel No2 Powder info

Hi everyone. My husband is looking for information on this powder. IMR Hi-Vel No 2. He needs to know reloading information that he can't find in the modern books. If anyone can give me some info, I would be grateful. I'm sure he would know just what to ask that would make it make sense, but he refuses to learn how to use a computer, so......... Thanks.

Could you please email my email address, because we don't have a computer at home and my phone is too stupid to run this website. Thanks a lot. wasashasserre@gmail.com

I cant remember for sure but think 30/31 was the replacement for hi-vel #2 and the burn rate are similar.
If you need data for a specific cartridge I have the old Funk & Wagnall's data book By Phil Sharp that will contain data for the hi-vel powders.

HiVel No.2 was not a DuPont IMR product, but was produced by Hercules. 3031 is not a direct replacement and the powders are quite different, with HiVel2 being double-base and IMR3031 being single base.A charge of 44 grs. of HiVel#2 was popular in the .30-06 for match shooting with the Ball M1 or M72match bullets.

Be aware that any HiVel#2 is over 50 years old. I used up the last of mine in the 1980s and that powder was made in the early 1960s. A charge of 24 grs.with #311299 shot very well at 200 yards from my Win bester Model 70 .30-'06.

Yes, HiVel#2 was a double-base Hercules powder. The 'military match load was a very mild load, providing 2200-2300fps. I used about(?) 30 grains in my .30-30 in 1964 as the 1st powder I ever used. It was discontinued very shortly after I started reloading, sometime in the 60's. As Outpost 75 said, that is very old powder.

PS - Internet browser is a great tool to find information!
