    Alliant 300mp reduced loads

Has anyone tried the 300 mp for reduced loads with cb's? I have been hesitate because of it's similarity to h110. I emailed alliant and was told "I would probably not have much success". It's been great in my 300 bo, but with near full loads.

I wouldn't if I were you. Ball powders tend do unpredictably strange things when reduced too far.

Many are playing with this powder for reduced loads, plain base cast boolits and breech seating in the older cals., some info on ASSRA website.

Logged into ASSRA, searched for alliant, 300mp, mp300, 300-mp in title and message, no hits.

    Further research.

It reminds me of AA#9 a little on the slow side. Unburnt granules and such.
Full tilt 44 mag loads makes my little boy grin from ear to ear when His pop
can jumps 20 feet in the air.
Let us know if you come up with something. Got around 4 lbs. left to play with.

Works very well in my 500 S&W rifle at full throttle, but can't help you with reduced loads.

I went and tried the search on the ASSRA forum and didn't find anything either so started looking back and did find some of the first posts. If you would go to the sub forum "Reloading the Single Shot Rifle" and go back to page 43 there is a post started by J.Louis titled "300MP Alliant" on 5.21.12 that will get you some information on the 300 MP. I have used it in both the 32-40 and 38-55 with great results.

I have use around 11 grains of it with a 230 grain cast boolit at around 1250 FPS. Not a lot of testing but it seemed to shoot fine.

I have tried it in my 33 ELCO Max (357 max necked to .338) with 243 gr PB bullets and 7 1/2 Rem primers. The ES was more than 3 times what I got with AA #9 and the accuracy wasn't near as good.

It does have a good pressure/velocity ratio for smaller cases.

ohland - here's a couple of ASSRA threads and when you search in the ASSRA forum, you have to be date estimate, so use all dates. Here's a couple of 300-MP threads. I too played with the powder and was not as successful as J Lewis on ASSRA with his scoped 32-40. My reloads were too small and the charge needs to be increased for accuracy at 300 yds with the 32-40

Being a pistol powder and not many downloading for rifle reloads - it's a powder with potential but needs more work. And like H110 - 300-MP requires a magnum primer for proper brisance of the powder
    Regards
    John
