    Unknown metal scrap

Hello All: I have some mystery metal from a friends scrap pile and I made some test gas checks with it. It looks like it may be aluminum. It is nine one thousands thick and was definitely used in the printing industry (1960s) Looks like it was made to advance in a long coil on cog gears. Its about sixteen inchs wide. Itried putting a torch over it as I do annealing checks of fourteen one thousandths and center of check melted before color changed. Maybe because of the thinness of the material. Don't have a camera to take pics. any ideas what this stuff may be. Thanks GP

Sounds like lithograph plate. Used to be used in the printing industry. It is aluminum and makes great gas checks since it typically doesn't have the springyness of flashing.
