Looks like a tapered breach seating design. Some of the old timey gun builders produced a mold for each rifle they made. It could be a one off that went with a specific rifle.
Perhaps the owner had a stamp made with his name on it.
[The Montana Gianni] Front sight and squeeze
Thanks for the insight. Without casting a projectile, the inside measures at the base 0.460".
Do you fellows know of anyone that collects such? I am a military ammunition collector, not interested so much in bullet molds. I have molds I have put to a lot of use over the years, but no interest in collecting something like this. It would just collect dust for me.

Yes I can be long winded. Yes I follow rabbit trails. Yes I admit when I am wrong. Your mileage may vary.
Keep your powder dry. Watch yer Top knot.

Not for myself mind you but to serve the needs of others.
I like collecting homemade reloading stuff, and found this on ebay the other day. It is definitely homemade, not gunsmith, with the cutouts for the handles being lopsided. I find it strange that someone can cut a mold cavity, but cannot cut slots for the handles. A spare set of Lee 2 cavity handles(only thing thin enough to fit), various hardware store screws, and a ratty old Lyman sprue plate brought it back to a useable state. Interesting 490 gr bullet(ww/tin mix) with bottom 2 bands being .460, fat middle band is stepped .460/.455, and the next 4 go .454, .453, .452, .452. It needs beagling to cast a round bullet, .006" smaller across the blocks. I also need to shim the handles a bit in the uneven slots. If I crimp it lightly over the step in the big groove, I can just feel pressure on my thumb when chambering it in my Pedersoli Sharps .45-70. I wonder how it will shoot once beagled?
