    mauser barrel

I picked up a used LR mauser barrel in .280 rem and 7x64 brenneke for the cost of shipping. I thought it was a great deal until I looked at the bore of the .280. Rifling is nearly shot smooth, a little bit of pitting and what might be a bulge. Is it worth using for a PP barrel or should I just toss it.

The 7x64 is in great shape. This will be used in a receiver I picked up.

The .280 sounds like a tomato stake to me.

Send 'em out to Bob Hoyt for either a barrel liner or rebore to a larger caliber. Personally, I'd rebore and try a new caliber. Talk with Bob and he'll match the rate of twist to the intended use and you'll have a fantastic gun as a result.

Check and make sure there isn't a lot of copper build up.
You know, there's an old saying, Miss Sally. There's no law west of the Dodge and no God west of the Pecos. Right, Mr. Chism? James Pepper

Wrong, Mr. Pepper. Because no matter where people go, sooner or later there's the law. And sooner or later they find God's already been there. John Simpson Chism

There is no such thing as a 'tomato stake barrel' around here.I cut the chamber off and use it as a chamber gage. then there all those short sections that can be turned into a gage on front of the chamber.

I have new, used and take off barrels, it is not necessary to cut the chamber from the good barrels, just use the chambers.
