Well you asked a brief question(well....sort of), i'll give you a brief answer......your gas check came off.........

I would try a thicker material for your gas checks

Too little velocity. Tiny mouse fart load.

Even if the bullet design is for a gas check don't use them on very mild loads. You should notice no difference in accuracy and won't have to worry about them coming off.

I have wondered for some time what would happen if you fired a round with a gas check in the barrel.

Sometimes it gets blown out, sometimes leaving mark, sometimes not. Many times it gets smashed into the barrel then it leaves a mark for sure, sometimes more sometimes less. On rare occasions it actually gets "ironed" into the barrel--- thats not good.
It's best they not come off.
Actually seldom does any of the above happen but it does and it has. You reduce the risk greatly with proper seating and when using mouse fart loads and even a lot of light loads in general, leave the gas check off even if the shank is cut for it. Most report no drop in accuracy and if that check isn't there it sure cannot come off !!!

That is most unusual. Tell us more about the load you are using etc.

What happens to the gas check at the pressures and speed they go from 0 to whatever, it can be theorized, unless we can capture with a high-speed camera. The camera can only see what happens as the bullet comes of the barrel. Something else that could happen to you is that the gas check fell off during sitting the boolit and mysteriously the shot was fired, with the GC bein among the last pieces trying to leave the barrel.
One thing that happened to me was that the gas check busted the digital display of my Chrony meter. The bullet took its normal path and the gas check took a fast dive and stroke the display, making it useless.
The load was a medium to upper load for my 7-30W carbine 21" barrel. Just my observation from my own experience. Others may have a better understanding than what I explain here.

I suspect the check fell off the bullet in the case and was ejected upon firing into the barrel. If the check was on the bullet flat and square there is no way it would have stayed in the barrel.

This makes sense - I had pulled some bullets with gas cks - must have left one in the hull.

Excellent. Good to find out. Tell us about your gas checks and bullet shank. Sounds like you have a loose fit. Won't do you any favours at the target either.
