Paper patching for a 357 mag

I just bought a japanese made 357 mag winchester lever action rifle. I was wondering if anyone had paper patched for that gun and if they had any advice to share??

No direct experience, but if they'll feed without tearing the patch it should work great. The general principles of PP would apply. GW

Yours is the earth and everything that's in it,

If you seat the boolits out where they need to be to jam into the throat, it's not going to feed. But use a heavy boolit - 180 to 220 gr, load it over a case full of Lil' Gun, maybe a card wad between the powder and boolit, and watch out - you are within striking distance to 35 Rem ballistics and if your fitup is good it'll be very accurate.

About the only pistol powder I can get right now is h4227. And the only mold I can find is the lee 158 gas check mold. We'll see how it goes. The gun was unfired, and I'm still cleaning it up...

Size to .001" over BORE diameter, patch to be a thumb press in a fired case. Load to engrave the rifling when the action is closed. H4227 will work fine. The Lee 158 MIGHT be long enough to still be in the case depending on how your rifle is throated. If it is, you're good to go.

So, I slugged the bore. it's .347/.355. It's looks like a very short freebore in the barrel. I'll have to put the gun back together and see. Sounds like I need the bullets sized to .348?? Is that correct?? Bullet .001 over lands, and paper .001 over grooves??
