.257 wildcat?? what do I have here?

A friend gave me a box of stuff he got at an estate sale. Looks like some custom dies, a .25 cal reamer and these two cartridges. One headstamp is WCC 84 and I'm guessing a .223 cut down. The other says
PS 5.56 80.11. Both are now 26MM long and .25 caliber and I pulled a 60 gr. .257 bullet from one. Any ideas of what wildcat this is??

Almost looks like a 256 win mag, but using 223 cases instead of 357mag cases

You can make 7.62x25 Mauser and Tokarev cases from those. Looks like that pistol case necked down to .25. When you neck a case down it lengthens a bit, so that is a good guess.

Do the dies have any markings?
Can you post a pic of the dies. Brand might help identify.

I've made and shot .256 WinMag out of .223 brass. You just have to poke the brass out of a Contender with a rod since there is no rim. Looks about the same.

It looks like a 7.62 Tok necked to 25. 7.62 Tok can be made from 223.

I don't know what its called but on a mini Mauser or small Sako action I would call it PERFECT!

I don't know what it is, but I like it. You are lucky since you probably have the dies and the reamer together. Usually it is one or the other.

Here's a pic of what I have. The dies have no name so I don't have a clue who made them. If any of you fellows want the whole shebang I'll ship it to you for $30. It's not something that interests me at all.

Or get an extractor for a rimless cartridge?

It should work; I was just playing around with the .223 to see if it could be done. It was just easier to poke them out with a cleaning rod than switch extractors back and forth.

I make 256 WM rimless out of 221fb cases. I cut a small piece of bike innertube and rolled it and put under the extractor to make it pop up and grip the rimless case. Been working good for a couple of hundred shots so far.

Excellent idea; I'll give it a try. Thanks. I've got a FB also, so I hate to cut up that brass, but I've got a 30 gallon trash can full of .223 so I can afford to lose a few of those.
