    couple questions

Ok,i am getting ready to try dry tumble powder coating and was wondering if I can remove lube on boolits I already have and use them or do I need to re cast more? Also they have gas checks on them so will this be a problem? If the checks in place will cause problems I will just cast up a few to try.Thanks.

Remove the lube on the boolits with mineral spirits then rinse with acetone and let dry. PC with or without GC's doesn't matter. Push through Lee size after baking then load.

I have de-lubed thousands of commercial slugs and PC's them very successfully.
I soak in laq thinner over night
    Pour out
    Swish in clean thinner
Pour out and save for 1st soak again
Pour in VERY HOT water with Simple Green
    Swirl for a couple minutes
    Pour out
    Rinse in VERY HOT water

    Dump on cloth to dry.

    Works 110%!

A "faster" process with GC's could leave grease down in there and it will wick out into the PC when you bake. I have found ANY lube/grease/oil associated with PC'ing will cause poor adherence.

Try it to find out what works best for you.

Remelting is just a big waste of resources!

bangerjim, I was also wondering if I could de-lube boolits for PC. Thanks! Your post might have just saved me a bunch of weeks of casting and sizing. I have about 30 LBS of RCBS 30-180SP and another 30 LBS of Lee 312-155-2R boolits all dressed up, lubed/sized/GC'd that I wanted to try ESPC'ing some day. Coffee cans full of tumble lubed pistol boolits, too!

You are welcome, sir. That is the purpose of this forum......to share the successes and failures of our craft!

There may be suggestions of faster ways, but my way, I have proven to be successful in removing 100% of the old grease.lube......

    Have fun PC'ing.

Anyone ever tried the laquer thinner and then simple green method that bangerjim mentioned to remove lee a-lox lube? Have a couple hundred that have a fine coating of the lee a-lox that I did before finding out about powder coating. I would like to take off and powder coat. Not even sure it is worth the trouble for a couple hundred. If I don't hear from someone on success of this removal process with alox specifically they will be tossed into the dutch oven for the next smelting session. Thanks.

Alox is just a petroleum by-product and laq thinner should dissolve it over night.

Put some in a glass jar and try it B4 doing the whole batch.

With only a couple hundred, it would be easy to strip them.....or remelt also.

I removed Alox with Acetone. I placed a few handfuls on an old towel, poured a bit of acetone over them to wet and shook back and forth. Came out clean as a whistle. Coated 10 minutes later then baked- no issues.

What about just boiling them to remove the lube?
