    HM˛ - 18 cav #1 buckshot

Here is a group buy for a mold i built in request to another post wanting an 18cavity #1 buckshot mold. As you can see its done a little different then a normal mold. there is no need for a sprue plate because you manually clip the balls off the center trunk. We will sell these at $100.00+shipping. when done thy will be posted on our website and an item with your name on it will be under the group buy category. You basically go to our store and buy your name. in the info section after you click on your name will have your order details. dont wory about paying till i get them done. so lets get this party started.
If your on the fence about shooting #1 buckshot read this article its really great http://www.frfrogspad.com/shotgun.htm

Molds are made from 7075-T6 aluminum and use lee 6cav handles. This is an 18cav mold that casts #1 buckshot.
you will notice that there are little casting hairs from the vent lines, there is so much pressure in the mold that you get those. but thy come right off.
I clipped the balls off and tossed them in a pop bottle and tumbled them around for a few min by hand and poof gone.

I did 22 casts and it took me less then 3 min, That's 396 balls. That's over 100 balls a min.
I just cut them off and it worked slick. This is how I cast my buckshot from now on.

    Order List

    Two ?'s.

    1) What is the actual size of the balls?

    2) Will this fit under a Lee 4-20 pot?

Someone once asked J. Edger Hoover, "What is the most deadly weapon that a civilian can own for self defense?"
His response was, "A 12 gauge shotgun loaded with #1 buckshot, because it has the heaviest payload."

You might have a winner here.

Total Cross section of #1 shot is 30% more than 00 buck and still gets 12" penetration. Best home defense load out there.

Casting 400 balls in 3 minutes is pure win.

The block is only 3" tall so if you can fit somthing 3" tall under your pot then your fine. I will mesure my lee pot when I get to the shop.

3" fits under my Lee 4-20 with room to spare.

    I'll take one.

Please check the actual size of the balls as the factory stuff varies considerably from maker to maker.

I programed the molds to be cut at .300 my test mold dropped a tiny bit larger at around .302 I think. But it did not matter to me as its for a shotgun.

Factory 00 buck runs around 0.310" Thats why I was wondering. Factory #1 runs around 0.294" It does matter when you are trying to stack the balls. They will fit in some wads and not others. Thanks, Tom

I can cut them to what ever size your guys decide on. The test mold was cut at .300 but I can cut it smaller. Cant go much over .300 as the wall between the cavs would get really thin.

.30 is standard #1 buckshot mold size. It does not have to be exact, it will still stack nicely at .302" or whatever. No good reason to go smaller.

I found that Federal undersized their "00" buck to make them stack neatly; mine were cast to spec dimensions and would not stack as the recipes suggested. #1 buck will solve my problem of stacking well in 12 ga wads from Federal or Claybuster.

I checked the clearance on my lead pots from spout to base.

    Lee 4-20....3.875"
    Lyman Mold Master XX...4"
    RCBS Pro-Melt....5"

    3" mold block fits easily.

I built a rotary tumbler from a washing machine motor, pillow bearings, 3/4" rod and PVC pipe. I can easily tumble 25lbs of buck to a high shine with the sprue nub gone. There's about a .002" reduction in size from tumbling to a mirror finish. I have not found any loss or improvement in groups from tumbling.

    I have 2 questions.

    1. What is the site address of your store?

    2. What is the alloy you use for the buckshot, or is it pure lead?Robert
