416 Taylor

I have acquired an interarms mkx action and I'm contemplating what caliber to build. I have always wanted a 416 Taylor and I'm wondering if anyone here knows where I could find one. I'm not having any luck online. Midway had one but its discontinued along with many other Wildcat chambered barrels they used to carry.

I hope this was the right place to post this.

I have 3 different molds for my Taylor ranging from 350 gr. to 342 gr. and just under 400 gr. It is amazing what the Taylor will do with a good load and boolet. Good luck with yours.Robert

I had one of the early Taylors built back inna 70's , burned up along with everything else in 2007 . Saweet round , me likee a lot

I haven't but will tonight. How is the recoil on these? I don't plan on using a muzzle break...I kind of like to be punished occasionally.

The Taylor is a wonderful useful cartridge. The rifle needs to be a bit heavy but not too much over nine pounds. The RCBS 350 grain mold is a good one to start with. Gator checks make a positive difference over others. All my loads are full power with jacketed or cast. Makes a great big game killer.

I had one built up on a MK X action and shot the RCBS 350 boolits in it. Really enjoyed it for almost a year until a fellow shooter decided they wanted it more than I did.... money speaks!

I miss it.

Maybe my 9.3x62 will take some of the pain away.

Made mine up on a "new" controled feed Win. M 70 about 20 some years back. I`ve had it Mag-N-Ported to offer a little better control over muzzle jump. My molds are the RCBS 350 gr. that I`ve had H.P work done on, an Accurate #42-330C mold that drops at 342 gr. with a "semi hard" alloy. I have an 400 gr. mold from Bruce at BRP before he closed the doors, it is a very accurate design of his. Finally I have a PP mold from Richard Doughty that when wrapped weighs about 394 gr. I have experimented wrapping .40 cal. rifle boolets then push thru sizing them to .417", results are very good thus far. I have settled on Speer 350 gr. JSP bullets over Barnes for the simple reason of cost if the need for a jacketed bullet ever arises. A Shilen barrel was the barrel maker for this job along with a Leupold European 30mm 1.5x4.5 scope with German #4 post crosshair in QD mounts with NCGS open front sight with a fixed Williams rear regulated sight. A barrel band sling set up will save your off hand when firing and being hit with a stock mounted sling stud. Good luck with making an excellent and under appreciated cartridge/rifle.Robert
