    HP Boolits and a GP100

    Interesting range report...
First I bought a great mold from Erik at HollowPointMold.com very easy to use and a great guy to work with - I highly recommend if you want a hollow point mold. He removed the lube groves for me so with the hollow point and PC the boolits weigh in at 160 grains.

This target was shot at 7 yards using 13gr 2400.

This target was also shot at 7 yards but using 14gr IMR4227.

The "interesting" part about this range trip was the use of IMR4227. It left a fair amount of unburned powder that managed to get between the crane and the frame. This caused the cylinder to misalign and hit the forcing cone taking the gun out of action. Cleaning out the unburned powder corrected the stoppage but something worth knowing. The 4227 shot fine but I think I'll stick to 2400 in my GP100.

    nice groups and bullets!

i haven't tried 4227 in my 357mag (if i have only a couple rounds) but i really like it in my 500mag, no unburnt powder in a 6.5: barrel.

do you still have a crimp groove? maybe not enough crimp?

Seems my shooting partner has great luck with 4227 in his .44 - I had no idea that some unburned powder would cause a stoppage but it does - I've managed it twice in a row.

We did save the crimp grove and I had a fair crimp both trips to the range. I attempted a better picture of the boolits - here's a shot of a couple PC'd and one sized waiting for some PC.

    Quick update

I had a few minutes and took the GP100 out today. I loaded up some of the PC'd 160gr HP over 15 grains of 2400. Most acceptable accuracy and velocity was just over 1300fps. I have a Rossi/Puma Mod 92 I'll try the load in and report back when time allows.

    Interesting.

How long is the barrel on your gp? Ss or blue?

Did the 4227 loads show any pressure signs or seem warm? I ask because it usually burns clean at mid to upper end loads. The trick is finding accuracy and clean burn with it.

I'd back up some now that your getting good accuracy close. With cast it seems the good loads really shine as you back up to 30-50yds.

    Thanks for sharing.

The GP100 is the 4.2" Stainless version. The 4227 loads do seem "milder" then the 2400 loads with no signs of pressure. I'm guessing the 4227 is just running out of barrel or that maybe a heavier boolit might help but with the good luck I'm having with the 2400 I'm thinking I'll save the 4227 for rifle loads and my new 44.
