    MiHec 10mm/40s&w - 170gr / 150gr WFN/HP, 4-cav, Brass

THIS GROUP BUY IS NOW CLOSED!
Send a PM to Mihec if you would like to buy one. He probably still has some extras (7/4/2014).

    This mold was offered cut to full .543" depth for a 170gr WFN / 164gr & 155gr HP, or cut to .483" depth for a 150gr WFN / 144gr & 135gr HP.

All molds came with all three pin sets. There are two hollow point pin sets and blank pins for casting solids. The "Penta" pins remove ≈6gr from the solid boolit, the round pins remove 15gr from the solid boolit. So a mold cut for a 150gr WFN used with the round pins drop 135gr HP boolits.

    Options:
    1. Mold cut for 170gr WFN €118 shipped (Approx. $165)
    2. Mold cut for 150gr WFN €118 shipped (Approx. $165)

Another fine mold. Realized i don't have a .401 Sizer so i have to grab one before i load them but here's that picture of the mold again

Casts easily with my only prep being some brake cleaner and warning it up.

It is my second Mihek Mold and I like it just as much. it casts about 3 grains heavy with COWW. The tolerances are amazing though! There are no seams on the bullets, not even on the flat noses/solids.

Anyone put any of these downrange yet? I'm curious to hear how they shoot. Particularly the 150gr ones

Too much holiday for me, this weekend. I'll have a full range report next weekend.

Got my mold Thursday and started casting Saturday morning.

Went to size some bullets with my .401 Lee push through sizer before powder coating and had a heck of a time sizing the bullets.

Turns out my mold casts .4035 to .4040 dia bullets. The Lee sizer sizes them to .4009. The bullets now have a flange around the base as shown on the attached photo.

I lubed the alignment pins and my alloy is straight COWW.

    Anyone else having this problem?

Well, yea I think that's a somewhat common occurrence. The design is speced at .403" and MiHec cuts them on the outside edge of the spec. Then, depending on alloy, mold temp, and alloy temp your boolits will vary in size from there.

I've never had this problem with one of MiHec's molds before.
I'm not real keen on working every bullet over a file to remove the flange on the base.
I wonder if the bullets will chamber at .402?
I've never had a mold that was .003 over optimal dia.

I have the 200 gr and the 170 gr mold and neither have your problem.

I have the 200 grainer, a 125-357 and a 140-359 and they all cast dead on or .001 over.
Don't know what happened with this one.

Whoa, I just saw the pic you posted. I've never seen anything like that before. mine get a little flash on the base after the sizing die but its thousandths of an inch that scrapes off with a fingernail, not total base deformation like what you got. I don't have an answer for you there.

That much and on one side makes it appear to be a problem with the sprue plate too loose possibly. I would like to see what some look like before sizing. If it was just oversize causing that the tail should be even all the way around.

I've got the 200gr version also and it drops about .002 over so sizing isn't a problem on mine. i'd tend to agree with the above poster and check the sprue plate.

Sprue plate was tight. Bases looked good. There is a flange all the way around the base. It just spiked to a very thin flange at some points.
I sized all the bullets I had cast, so I don't have a picture to send.
I'll try to cast some more in the next couple of days.

It may be the Lee push through sizer. It is new and I have never used it before. I'll cast some more and try them in my RCBS sizer.

    Oreo,
Here's where I took the measurements.
Sorry, I'm still struggling with posting pics.
Measured with a micrometer with direct readings to .0001

Maybe the sprue plate is too tight causing the plate to lift. I'd try adjusting the tension before getting too upset. Could be a bad sprue plate also. What are you using to size the bullets. You might be sizing off center. Need more info than provided.

Timberhawk,I'm still typing my reply to your PM so stand by on that.

Your drawing suggests misaligned mold mold blocks. Check that the alignment pins are set in the blocks correctly and that when the mold is closed there is absolutely no movement of the mold halves respective to the other.

Alignment pins look good, absolutely no movement when closed and the exterior of the mold halves visibly seem to be lined up perfectly.
