8# jug Promo for $140. Uses and price check

LGS who is high on powder/primers has an 8# jug of Promo for $140. I understand it is interchangeable with red dot. Same burn rate, a little more dense.

What calibers does it excel at and how does it flow? How's the price? Any powder that is less than $20 a pound is a deal right now to me.

How would it do in my favorites 38, 357, 41, 45acp and 45 colt?

Just about anything that R-Dot , B-Eye can do, Promo can do !

Be careful with it and don't depend on " volume " when dispensing the powder as it may vary slightly from original R - Dot , go by weight and you'll be perfectly safe and you'll like it.

I just bought a jug last month for $100 in Michigan. Its a great powder for most pistol loads and reduced power rifle loads.

Wow it was $85 a jug at a local dealer when I got mine awhile back. Haven't seen any since though.

meters thru my Dillon just fine

Little high on price. I would pay $125, but not $140, unless I really needed it.

Thanks for the price check guys. I'll just hold off on it for now. It's hard to not get all excited seeing that nice fat 8# jug sitting there. Powder and primers are coming around. I'll wait until I find something else for my revolver plinking needs. I'd really like to find a big jug of 231. My favorite plinking powder.

I have a shop that doesnt gouge that I'm waiting to get powder from. $140 bones plus tax is a lot of money to drop on a powder I havent used before and I generally dont like to give in to the gougers.

More than half grain max variation, +/- 0.3 grain with nominal 5 grain charge in .45 ACP, velocity ES of 20-round sample over 100 fps!

I have been told to go with lot to lot info on Promo that each lot may have subtle differences.

I think at 140 you're getting broke down like a shotgun... I digress it is RED DOT by weight not volume. I use it all the time and have had zero issues with it. But at 140 I'd pass and get the real deal. No way on God's green earth would I pay that much for Promo.

Promo should run around $100/8lbs not including shipping or hazmat if buying online. I've seen it $120 out the door at gunshows.

Use wherever Red Dot is called for and by weight NOT volume as the Alliant Rep stressed to me. I do not buy Red Dot anymore and rely on Promo for all target rounds in handguns.
