    Mosin Nagant bolt lost

My son recently moved, and the box that contained the bolt to his Mosin Nagant disappeared. He's searched long enough to convince him it will never reappear.

I figure there must be another bolt out there without a rifle... anyone know where he might get one?

    Thanks - Randy

Sorry, I'm no help on a new bolt, but I have got to ask,,,,,,why would the bolt be out of the rifle to start with?

How ever you come up with one; Beg, borrow, buy or rent a set of headspace gauges.

+1 on the headspace gauges. The Soviets when they rebuilt them and put them in Cosmolene would mix and match the bolt to the gun to obtain proper headspace. You may very well have to do some Smithing or buy more than one bolt to get it to work with your rifle.

Reamer Rentals has headspace gauges for rent, IIRC about $5.
Ask the business you buy from if you can buy a couple of bolts and return the one you don't use. I have done this before and it save alot of waiting for shipping time.

Gunbroker has them all day long. But like others have said you need to check headspace w/ the new bolt.

Apex gun parts has them...this is a large rim cartridge , any bolt will fit and probably work. It would be nice to check it with a proper gage ,but bottom line is it dose'nt back out primers or fail at the case web ,you're good to go...HTH

Makes them easier to store in safes, also turns the firearm into a walking stick if it falls into the wrong hands.
    I can understand it happening.

I am looking for a bent bolt for a mosin pu. Do you know what he charges for a bolt or to ship him a bolt for bending?

The best way to find it is buy a replacement. My experience is the original will show up about 30 seconds later. Ask me how I know...

True, all my milsurps outside the safe have the bolts removed and they are stored in said safe.

I"d say that that one has been rendedered into a "good Mosin", like the Frontiersmen use to say about a certain ethnic group.
