Fact: AUS 6 and AUS 8 are bettter steels than they get credit for being. The flood o cheap CRKT stuff from China has done much to tarnish it's reputation. As with most things, the devil's in the details. In this case it is the heat treat. SOG simply does it better. The result is a knife that will take nice edge and hold it a reasonable time.

Discussion: None. It is as outlined above. 1 ugly knife of quality out of proportion to its price for $27. Not your taste? Not mine either, but it didn't going to stop me from buying a half dozen to give as gifts, keep in vehicles or tackle boxes. I've been messing with the ones I kept to play with. It isn't difficult to get a good edge.

AUS-8 is a great steel for knives, it sharpens very easily to a very sharp edge but its edge holding is just above average. By contrast I have a knife in D2 which holds its edge VERY well but is a bear to get sharp. I've just ordered a new folder kit that is AUS-8, it really is in the heat treat with this steel but it is above average for a stainless knife steel.

I have one of these (non-serrated) and will vouch that they are excellent blades; scary sharp when new and fairly easy to resharpen after skinning a deer.
