Question Lyman M die Expanding plug part numbers?

Any time someone wants to ADD some P/Ns, please do so! I pretty much have all the ones _I_ need.

If anyone knows of other plug P/Ns, by all means, do share the wealth.

$6.50 for each plug/stem combo. "The plugs are only sold WITH the threaded holders and are $6.50 each. As for the M-die bodies, these are also only available by phone. Call Lyman at: 1-800-225-9626"

http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/d...eckExpDies.php - but no parts list

    http://www.lasc.us/Brennan_LymanMDies.htm

    Attachment 107020
Lyman M die bodies M1 on left, M2 on right. The threaded portion of the dies are the same

    M1 - OAL 2.872, knurl length .931 (C.F.Plinker - 2-7/8" long for cases 1.3" to 2.25")
    M2 - OAL 3.347, knurl length 1.380 (CFP - 3.34" long for cases @ 2.0" to 2.95" long)

    CFP - Either body works from 2 to 2.25 inches . Example: .308, 30-30, and 303 Savage.

Lyman M die stems, threaded portion is same

Long stem - 2.627 OAL (extension .858") Pistol and revolver cartridges
Short stem - 1.754 OAL Rifle cartridges.

Man that would be a great sticky once the p/n's are added.

If you don't mind saying, what did the expander plug and stems cost from Lyman? I need to order a couple more calibers. Thanks

I'm intrigued, is there different plug or stem length? What is the M1 and M2 body length?

I would like the keeper of the list to add the following:
I do not know what the official designations are

    50R (50-70)? They make a 50-70 3 die set
    50R (50-90 Sharps)? They make a 50-90 SS 2.5" 3 die set
    41R (40-65)
???? (40-70 Sharps Straight) They make this 3 die set
???? (56-50 Spencer) They make this die set

41P for 41 Rem. Mag (I use this with 40-65 also)

    The M1 and M2 are body length Attachment 106862 M1 left is .22 Hornet M2 is .308
I use the M1 for the .308 as you can see the M2 when used for .308 the stub is screwed in a long way, Lyman sells the .30 and .31 in the short version, all the pistol M dies are M1, it's handy to have a few of each body length to mix and match. Robert.

Could you whip out a micrometer and measure the first step and the second step? The boolit diameters are roughly .001 over the 1st step diameter and .001 under the 2nd step diameter.

    Plug 1st 2nd Boolit dia
    24R .242 .246 .243 .244

Not sure if the 40-65 has the same step values as the 41P. Look at the following extract from LASC:

    38AP .353 .357 .354 .356
    38P .356 .360 .357 .359
    35R .357 .361 .358 .360

Notice the (nominal) maximum boolit diameters overlap (especially between the 38P and 35R). Perchance the 41P is just a wee bit smaller than the 41R?

My notes show that there are two bodies. The M1 is 2-7/8 inches long and works with cases from 1.3 inches to 2.25 inches long. The M2 body is 3.34 inches long and works with cases from about 2.0 inches to 2.95 inches long. As you can see there is an overlap from 2 to 2.25 inches where either body will work. This is where the .308, 30-30, and 303 Savage are.

The above are with the short plug holder (stem). It is 1-3/4 long. There is a long plug holder that is used with revolver and pistol cartridges. It is 2-5/8 inches long.
    Some times it's the pot,
    Some times it's the pan,
It might even be the skillet,
But, most of the time, it's the cook.

I have 2 of the 40-65 expanders. They are the long rifle type they both measure .407 /.412. I think these were probably targeted for a .408 groove diameter rifle.

I have one well polished 41 caliber pistol and it measures .4075 /.4125. I guess this makes them a little tight for a .410 hand gun.

    My 38 revolver plug is .3552 /.360
My 38 auto pistol plug is .3527 /.357

At one time I had the Lyman information for the .50-70 and .50-90 plugs but I lost it. I do know that the customer service lady told me the numbers and they are different. I think the .50-70 is about .002 or .003 larger than the .50-90.

Does anyone know of an M die for use with the 416 Rigby? I have a couple of M2 bodies but the 416 is just too big. The throat of the M2 is 0.520 and the 416 Rigby is 0.540 at the shoulder tapering to 0.585 near the base.

Part of the reason I am taking up casting is to feed my big toys (375H-H, 416 Rigby, and 458). Has anyone found an efficient way to flare cases of these sizes?
