I shoot more than a dozen guns in various sizes of 8mm (8x57, 8x50R, 8x56R, 8x58R, etc.) whose bores slug anywhere from 0.323" to 0.332". I like the notion of a multi-purpose mold that could be used in any of them, left as cast, or sized down to about 0.325". I like PB molds, as I typically shoot in the 1500 fps range and like to avoid the cost of gas checks when not needed. A bullet in the 240gr range also suits my fancy. The two MidSouth Custom 8mm's come close, but cast at about 0.328" and use gas checks. I have used Mountain Molds and would like to try another with them. A few questions:
- how far down can one size a bullet" From 0.332" to 0.325", i.e. 0.007"?
- what width of lube groove would be best suited for that much sizing? How many grooves?
- what front band width and nose length best suits a General Purpose mold
- other considerations?
I've thought of just copying the 8mm Maximum, but eliminating the gas check and making it cast at 0.332".
