    Visited the Pawn Shop today............

Went to the Pawn Shop today. He owner is going to accept a rifle for me from one of the members here. It was an interesting visit. He had a sportenized Norwegian Krag in 6.5X55. It was in really nice shape, asking about 675. He apparently had his own small collection of Krags,, I think he said 6 from various countries. This Krag was in very good shape. If I had had the money, I would have gotten it. He showed me several others off the shelf, all in the 575-675 range. I was sorely tempted. BUT, I have taxes due, and homeowners insurance renewal due, so, this next month is gonna be a bit tight, especially since I'm no longer working. As I was sitting in the chair gazing at the gun shelve, I noticed one that had the spoon shaped trigger guard. I asked if it was a muzzle loader. He said, almost, and handed me an 1884 Trapdoor Springfield. I'm not sure if it is in military configuration, or not. The bore doesn't look too bad, minor pitting. Nice walnut stock. The breachblock seemed tight. I handed it back, and told him that after paying my taxes and HOI, I would come back and make a down payment on it, if he still had it. Now, what do I need another gun for? It just tickled my fancy, I guess. So, now I have that to buy dies and sizers and etc, for. Same for the Carcano I will be getting. How many guns do I have? More than I need, but not as many as I want. Any body else troubled by this affliction? It was a nice visit. Now I need to fix supper. mikey

You can grow out of the acquisition syndrome when you get older, things sorta lose some of the importance they used to have, and oddly enough, you get more enjoyment out of the things that stick around than you used to. I have less guns and reloading gear now than ever, and enjoying it more. Just got a new .22 air rifle. Hey! Didn't I outgrow that too???
Got a .22 .30 .32 .357 .38 .40 .41 .44 .45 .480 or .500 S&W cylinder that needs throats honed? 9mm, 10mm/40S&W, 45 ACP pistol barrel that won't "plunk" your handloads? 480 Ruger or 475 Linebaugh cylinder that needs the "step" reamed to 6° 30min chamfer? "It's for my grand son" now works better then "Oh That, I've has that for years." I been at it since '69 when I bought my first rifle at 16.

My problem has been the "one-gun-every-thirty-days" law--that's a lot of guns to buy over a years time! My safe is full already.

    Me: It's an investment.
    Wife: So are diamonds.

So far the gun to diamond ratio is very healthy.

My wife just laughs when I want another one. I keep reminding her that it keeps me out of the bars and there are lots of worse things I could be spending the money on.

Actually, guns have increased in value much more rapidly than diamonds. If you don't believe it, buy a nice diamond then 1 year later try to get as much out of it as you paid. Betcha can't!

When I was a boy, I used to get the gun catalogs for free from the sporting goods store (remember those?) and read them by myself in the clubhouse us kids had made from salvaged boards. I still remember pictures of Renaissance engraved Browning High Powers. I begged my parents for a gun, but never had one of my own until I got home from the army. I haven't been without one since.
