    Final Salute

On this Memorial Day weekend I want to post a link to this article that was originally published on Veterans Day 2005.
This is quite a long article, but well worth the time it takes to read it.
Jim Sheeler won a Pulitzer for this article.
I think you will agree that it was deserved after reading this.

    Final Salute

Be warned, you will need a box of Kleenex handy while reading this.

With regards to gun control in this country, everyone should be asking themselves one question:
What is it that this government feels they need to do, but can't do, unless the citizens of this nation are first disarmed?
(I seriously doubt you can come up with any plausible answers that you will like...)

The heartache those parents must feel!

Thought about, but never truly prepared for ever since their son or daughter went into the "Service of Our Country".

I had read this quite some time ago, and you are correct that it should be shared over and over by every free thinking American.
    Thanks, brother.

I have no words to express my heartfelt gratitude for those who gave their all, and for those who honor that sacrifice. I pray that I live up to and honor that sacrifice.

Our grandson we're raising is 17 and a Junior. He recently surprised us with the announcement that he wants to join The Marines when he graduates. We've been to the Recruiting Office twice with him, he's been going there and working out with the Marines and several other kids, and he'll be joining the Delayed Entry Program soon.

    Sure caught us by surprise!

A tough read, but not a dry eye

Very hard to read and process. Lost one of my classmates a few years ago in an ambush in Iraq. The stories didn't seem real until I saw Jon's dad a few weeks after his death. It aged him 10 years in a month's time. Now every time I hear about another casualty, there is a face attached to it.

Prayers for the families of those who do not come home.
