Bear hunting with cast a bust this time....

Well guys, I took the son bear hunting for 5 days.... Took the k31 loaded with 200 gr cast for black bear, and the 375 h&h with 270 gr hard cast, and we spent 5 days crusing the beaches of port gravina, sheep bay, and everything between there and cordova alaska, and couldnt even find 1 tiny black bear. This was all done in Prince William Sound.. Big bummer... Last year this time, we harvested 4 by now... This year nuthin... We just got off a streach of unseasonably warm weather, and figure that beacuse of the heat, the bears were staying high.... Maybe we will try again in a couple weeks... We had a great time though, and spent some awesome time fishing, and just hanging out together, so that part was awesome. The weather was typical rainy and a bit of wind in the afternoons, but we were prepared for those typical conditions.... Did catch some fish though, and the memories will still be there as a awesome father and son time..... I will try to post some halibut pics in the next day or 2.....

    LOL! Ain't that the truth!

For loan oft loses both itself and friend,
And borrowing dulls the edge of husbandry.

I hope to get my boat out looking for bear next week. Probably out of Homer or Whittier.

Bummer on the bear, but I never associated a kill as the sole reason for a successful hunt. It sounds as if yours was successful.

Seens to me you had one of the best hunts of your life. To many people don't get involved with trere children and then wonder one day what went wrong with them.
You've been talking about taking your son on a bear hunt for several months, that's showing concern and caring for raising him correctly.
It would have been nice to bag a bear with him but there is always next time with the bear, but you did it correctly by making him a part of your life and activitities this time.
I doubt either one of you will ever forget this adventure. You're a good man sir.

Scenery man, scenery. You take it for granted, lots of folks go through their whole life never seeing anything even remotely as beautiful as the Alaska coast line. There don't have to be no friggen bears or whales to make a picture. lol

In my part of Alaska, each person gets 5 free black bear tags and one 20 dollar brownie tag each year.... Thats a lot of bear.... We will get our bear burger sometime real soon....
