Pops playing with his new brass

My Dad playing with his .45-120 brass.
It came from Swapping and Selling.
My Dad couldn't even walk up the hill on his own land anymore. He wasn't willing to live life like that. Dad has been having heart attacks for over thirty years. My sisters counted them up and it has been nine heart attacks. He wanted to take the chance and see if he could pull one more miracle out of the hat. He also had a spot on his lung and on his tongue which they believed to be cancer. He had heart, lung, and tongue surgery on March 31. Both biopsies came back as benign and we thought maybe there was one more miracle available. He has been in ICU ever since. He has been in ICU for more than a month now. He has been on a roller coaster of a little improvement and then a set back. Now the doctors are no longer talking recovery, just hospice. Now he is fighting his last fight.

Now concentrate on giving treatment for his soul rather than his body. Help him to be adopted into the family of the one that has defeated death.

As stated above, concentrate on his soul as the others things are truly, secondary.

When the final breath is drawn, God will have his bench and supplies waiting. His comfort is all important till than.

On Friday (5/2/14) the doctors said to summon the family as he only has a day or two to live.
They said his kidneys are failing. The mitral valve they put in on 3/31 has been damaged by the infection from his abcessed teeth. They pulled the teeth last week, but the damage is done. His high fever is gone, but pieces of the mitral valve are coming off and destroying his heart. He barely survived the first surgery. He can't survive another surgery and he can't survive without surgery. The doctors said a day or two remain.
I doubted they were right. He doesn't know how to quit and he has survived injuries which should have killed him before. Now this strength and determination can not fend off the inevitable, merely delay it.

That was Friday. Today is Monday. He is still here and he is alert and aware. He knows who is visiting. He just can't talk because of the ventilator. His kidney function is now stable and his heart is performing well below normal but better than on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

We've been sitting in the ICU room and telling stories. Most of my family never heard the story of me arm wrestling the buck and almost losing. I'm sure glad my little brother got there before the buck won!

A little more improvement today.
Now the doctor says it could go either way, so we take it one day at a time.
Kidney function is slowly improving and so is the heart.
Now the doctor is talking about weaning from ventilator and maybe recovery.
