Hi there,
Long time user of this coating but first time coater. I was just wondering, I have a heap of projectiles already made which have the dull silver look as they have been sitting for a bit, will these still coat or do the projectiles need to be fresh bright silver?
Should coat fine. provided there is no contaminants on them.

Thanks Trevor,
Will this add much size to actual diameter? I know I have to resize after coating was just wondering what sort of thickness this gives after coating.
Hey @ausglock, quick question from another thread. I believe you mentioned:
- Flat base- coat once, size then apply second coat
- Bevel base- apply all coats and size last
Why? And is there any harm in coat, size, coat for a bevel base? My sizing die goes about .0005 smaller than I'd like, but I'm not ready to open it up yet.
thx
2 coats will add about 1 to 1.5thou to the dia.
coat size coat on flat base bullets helps to remove any flashing around the bases.
You can coat size coat bevel base bullets too. But it serves no purpose.
If you are getting undersize bullets, you could beagle the molds...

I know you don't want to breathe the hi tek powder, I read the instructions and used a dust mask when mixing. My question is there any concern about the fumes generated from baking? I use a toaster oven in my outbuilding and when baking. I'd rather not have to bake outside if it's not that big of deal
The fumes from baking can be smelly. I just use a pedestal fan and an open window. You could rig up an exhaust fan to sit above the oven if you wanted to.. The bathroom type are cheap and move a good amount of air. Just direct to vent tube out a window.

I use a cheap kitchen vent fan over my oven and casting pot and duct it outside, this allows me to cast and coat year round.
How long should you wait after casting to coat the Boolits?
Also, as I water drop from the mold after casting, is there any advantage of water dropping after the 2nd coat?
Thanks for the Hi-Tek products, they make casting worthwhile.

What BHN are you looking for and what are you shooting it out of?
The answer to your question is, based on some rough and dirty experimenting I did with COWW and tin, with the right alloy yes it is worth a few BHN to water drop immediately out of oven into room temp water. It will not give you what you would get from heat treating.
While I work at it, it is by God's grace that it happens. So it is best I ask him what, how and when before I start..
I appreciate booolits can be coated as soon as room temp and dry, sorry, let me be specific this time. Is there any advantage to letting the lead cure weeks or months before coating?
Not looking for a specific BHN, just to improve on an existing alloy of 50%COWW and 50% lead used for subsonic 300 BO. These bullets shoot fine as they are, just curious about a post coating water drop. What percentage tin are you adding?
