It seems like I didn't see that powder on the shelf after about 1973 or 1974.

I used AL 8 in .30 Carbine but that was in the 60's and early 70's. 19 grains of 101 and 1-1/8 oz.shot sounds about right for trap/skeet loads.

I've used AL-5 and AL-7 never 8 or 101 not trying to steal the thread but after Smith and Wesson bought and subsequently shut Alcan down I know that Alcan imported all their powder does anyone know from who? and if its still imported under a different brand name?

I burned lots of AL 7 & 8 when you could use lead to hunt ducks. It was a long time ago, but I seem to remember the cans saying "made in Scotland". Those big flakes wouldn't go through a powder measure very well.

I just scanned an 8-ounce can of AL-5 from the late 60's/early 70's I think and it indicates "Made In Sweden"...

Note who it was made for...

Has anyone tried to open that pdf file I posted previously...

I can't open it on my computer--but stuff like that doesn't surprise me at all...

Mine too, with acrobat. Made by Bofors, for Smith & Wesson, Fiocchi. There's a 1966 Alcan manual on castpics that gives some pistol data.
"If people let the government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny."
