I picked up another Star this week from GB.
Whoever used it last rode it hard and put it away wet. Musta been left out under the rear bumber of his pickem up truck.
The pics showed it as being rusty but nothing that appeared to be all that bad so I pulled the trigger on it.
While I was cleaning the rust off I found a crack in the upper casting. Haven't used it yet but I don't think the casting moves during the sizing operation. If it does, I'm sure there are ways to "fix" it so it doesn't move.
It had a .452 die in it (on ebay now) which will be replaced with a .356 die.
Interesting side note - the marking on the die was extremely faint from some type of electric pencil. I couldn't tell if it was an impact pencil or electrical discharge marker. At least I could still make out the marking.

Magma still uses an electric engraver to mark the dies for the star sizer.

It's a shame to see what some folks will do to a great machine. It looks like it has gone to a good home though. It will repay you with many years of faithful service. The crack can be welded easily with an expierienced aluminum welder. It looks like an older machine as well. great find.

You might also contact Magma and get a price on the cracked piece, just a phone call. Or like gmsharts said and wield it. Either way looks like a great fine, enjoy.
