Any of you Nor-Easter guys ever built your own crab traps?

Barbie being the better fisherman in our nest wants to build some of these.
We build most thing together so I have plenty of faith in her making these.
I myself have never been crabbing but she has since she was five years old.

This is a nice trap but we like things old school. Plus we have a plethora of wood at our place up north.
    Tasty Huh!

I would like to add that let's keep the comments on communicable parasites acquired on ones ventures abroad and innuendo for the pit please.
Several ladies will be viewing this thread.
So let's please keep this on topic and discussion about the crab as in Crustacean.
    Thank you.

Are you wanting to make them out of 1"x1" wire or were you thinking a primitive type of crab cage out of woven branches?

Myself I would prefer wire cage type trap connected together with hog rings. but my idea was overridden seeing I'm not actually making these and only assisting.
Just like in the video in the second post.

I can see where it wouldn't be too hard to make them. The only problem is going to be finding the small signs that say "Enter here"

What is the material that covers the ends of the traps in the first post? Is it chicken wire? What gauge of material is needed so the little suckers don't chew their way thru the traps? I watched the video several times and all I learned was how to use a hand saw and nail a board.

There's nothing, I mean nothing, like a freshly boiled crab, eaten with your fingers, while downing a beverage of your choice!

study the tide charts and try to time your trips between the incoming and out going tide not during the slack time in between. I would call your trap a Lobster pot, also check your Regs. their needs to be a escape hatch if your setting the in US waters? I would try all wire traps but we use J-clips in place of hog rings because they don't leave as many sharp edges, btw if I call your crab trap a Lobster trap your Local Warden might see it the same way Just giving you a heads up I'm a retired Game Warden.

Born and raised on the east coast of Maine as far east as you can go by land. East port, lubec, & Calais. used to see them pots washed up on shore at times. used to pull them up on shore for the owners to find. also tons of them for sale along the coast U.S. route one 1. some of the finest sea food in the world on U.S. RT 1.

Unfortunately we have zero Lhab-sta up our way in WA however we seriously looked at living in Maine also. A couple of things we weren't comfortable with was Maine had a tick problem and a recent heavy outbreak of parasite transmitted by the tick Lyme Disease named after the township where the first case was discovered. http://lymediseaseguide.org/wp-conte...-1990-2008.gif
That said we have discussed it amongst ourselves and prefer to live our golden years somewhere where we won't be a potential symbiant for a virulent.
We also don't own snow shovels.
The local Moose population has been devastated by the deer tick. Goggle it. ICK!!!
To bad zombie flies don't target ticks.................... http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Ama...ory?id=7592626
We did though ponder sitting out on our porch of a split shingle sided vintage home on Adirondack chairs and watching the Maine Ocean and country side. We also documented the location most of the premium "Crab Shacks" on Maines wonderful coast line. 10 bucks will net you a ton of food.
The ME locals are charming, articulate and well educated and a complete opposite of Portland OR which we refer to as Potland or Hippie Town.

The snappy little butter out of Tillamook, Oregon

No, never had. What makes it different from other butters? No growth hormones? No added calories?
