[QUOTE=geargnasher;2727903]Josh, the casting world is in a real hurt for sub-30 caliber custom moulds. The only custom companies producing them are either backlogged forever or are having problems making the product. HM2 is entering the market too, but I think .22 through 7mm/.284 is ripe right now.

I agree with geargnasher...especially 7 MM in 130 to 150 Gr.. Hunting season is just around the corner..

Pic of 30 cal but gets you the idea ...http://castboolits.gunloads.com/atta...1&d=1391797626

In regards to the 8mm design that Josh posted a picture of in post #19. I ran the original Lee Group Buy on that design years ago. Even the Lee cut version of that design shot well in everything 8x57 it was tried in. As cast, lubed & checked it is 175 grains. The BRP version I currently have is obviously better that the original Lee mold.

Josh, if 45 2.1 gives you permission I would highly recommend that you run the design. They will sell.

That's great news. Like I said, it will sell.

One recommendation if you don't mind. If you can offer it as cast .325" - .326" on the bands with maybe an optional .327" - .328" bands and corresponding thinner/fatter nose diameters I think that would be a good thing. The fatter boolit option would be more enticing to those with long throated & worn bores.

Anybody with an 8x57 needs this design.

For your consideration..... BA Bore has a real valid point, 1018 is a cold finished steel, it will warp like nobodies business. I'd consider hot rolled mild steel or even 12L14. If you normalize 1018 it won't warp when you machine or it won't be affected by heating /cooling cycles. Just a thought.

You will learn far more at the casting, loading, and shooting bench than you ever will at a computer bench.

I would like to try out a few of these bullets once you get the molds cut. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/show...Lite-Group-Buy
If they shoot well for me, I would like a 2 cavity of it. I would really like it to be about 155 grains but that group buy isn't going anywhere. This would still be a good plinking bullet, though. Cheep trigger time.

So, I assume this is an option for the current A.C.E. 300 BLK subsonic boolit GB right?

I'd be all over some groove-less, flat or bevel base .225-.227" 65-80 grain 6S spitzer profile molds

I have these available for group buys, please start separate interest threads for the $55 mold and I will get to cutting them, I would like to see 5-10 designs going at once!

    Edit to the top plate:

I am thinking of using A36 any detractions to this?

If it is descaled/pickled. Otherwise I would use 1018 CRS.

I would be up for one of those.

I'm not clear on how this works--are you just going to post the molds you decide to make in the Group Buy section?

    On the sprue plate;
    Machining
The machinability rate of ASTM A36 is estimated to be 72%, and the average surface cutting feed of ASTM A36 is 120 ft/min. Machining of ASTM A36 steel is not as easy as that of AISI 1018 steel.

I would use common 1018 but in hot roll , any CRS will "crawl" when heated as the stresses induced by the cold rolling process work them selves out.
If CRS is normalized before machining it should be just as stable as the same grade of hot roll, but you have an additional process to do. Both will need o be ground flat. Someone mentioned ground stock , unless you have a blanchard that may be the most econimical choice. I would not want a cold rolled sprueplate with the mill finish, it will not stay flat unless normalized and ground.
I really like your idea with this economical mold, a 2 hole will feed my single shots just fine. Just thinking but a FP 25 cal could be maybe run at different weights on the same cherry????
