Has anyone used or tried to use a rock tumbler for brass ?
Has anyone used or tried to use a rock tumbler for brass ?
Wet tumbling......all the time!

I use Lortone 3lb and 6lb tumblers. Rubber drums are very quiet. I tumble with lizard litter/crushed walnut shell.
I used a rock tumbler for years, it worked just fine.

I bought the $55 2-drum model from Harbor Freight. Works perfectly.
That's how I started.

Thanks everyone really appreciate all the help I received from this group.
I use my rock polisher as well with stainless steel pins. Nothing else comes close.
Well your all certainly correct in that the end product is "GORGEOUS".
The twin drum polisher from Harbor Freight works just as it's designed and very well.
And, if your satisfied with a double handfull of brass per loading, Go for it!!!
I'll continue to look elsewhere for the appropriate gear but this won't cut it for me.

The way is ONLY through HIM.
Got a Thumbler's Tumbler, the big red model B, in 1973. Used it to polish a load of gem stones . Discovered it would polish brass, at that time treated walnut media was the stuff to use (stainless pins and wet polishing hadn't been invented yet) . Been polishing brass cases with it ever since. Only thing replaced was belts...I discovered "O" rings and vacuum cleaner belts were cheaper and worked as well as the expensive one's from Thumbler. Another thing I do before each use is to oil the motor with 3N1 oil , like the instructions say to. This must work because that thing is pushing 40 years of service!
I like the big octagon shaped barrel because it holds a lot...small ones are tedious, get a big one!

Thumler's B, SS pins, soap, water, citric acid, and good to go.....
When I have a small batch of cases to clean, put the 3 lb Harbor Freight on the Lortone with the 6 lb and let them both run.

9 lb. Thumbler Tumbler, SS pins, some Dawn dish soap, water and the brass. Couple hours later.............and Wolla!

How often do you oil your Thumlers?
Also, I switched to o-rings, too. Belts were breaking for no reason after only 4 or 5 timbles:

Belts were $5-$6 a pop. O-rings are only 80 cents, and last much longer. Stll using the very first o-ring, in fact.
