Balta, do you think the thread should be moved to the closed section and a new one started for the different mold offered. It might help with any confusion to newcomers seeing the thread for the first time under the active group buy. Another one can be created if a rerun becomes available. I was confused when I seen people ordering and thought it may be a rerun and seen my name on the list, but realized it wasn't a rerun. Just a thought. Thanks for doing the GB. I like the mold!

Was anyone else wondering if these could be a hollow point conversion? I'm interested, but you guys are getting my reloading practices (habit) to be expensive. I've said for a while I need a sandblast cabinet and a way to powder coat or alternative coat materials, but the wife isn't having it....she'd rather buy me more scrap lead.

Hey all - sorry to bring this thread back, but I'm JUST now getting around to trying out this fine mold! But, it is my first aluminum mold - what's the proper break-in procedure? I saw one fellow heating it up four cycles on the hot plate - by the way, should I get a metal plate to put between the eye and the mold so there aren't hot spots?

Beyond that, I was planning on scrubbing with a toothbrush and acetone - is that sufficient?

    Can't wait!

Just heat it up and cast! I do that with all my AL molds. No need to scrub the dickens out of it! Just wipe it off. Grease and oil do NOT cause wrinkles.....cold molds/lead do.

I have one of his like this ( and 36 LEE's) and it cast perfect boolits the 1st drop right out of the box. ALWAYS preheat to full casting temp. I never cycle. They get cycled during normal use!!!!!

K so dumb question - this is my first non-hp boolit to PC - what's the best way to ESPC with the gun? Is it OK to set them flat on their bases and PC or is it better to put them nose-down into holes?

    Thanks again, guys!

I set ALL my 9/38/40/45 boolits on their bases on NSAF at 3/4" spacing and spray away.

Bottom does NOT need to be coated!!!!!! No gain at all. If you are shooting hot enough loads where there will be gas cutting, us a GC'd PC'd boolit.

There it is! Thanks again, Jim. Any chance that covering the base would result in less smoke/lead exposure/whatever? I think that myth was a carryover from the days before I understood that it was the lube that made boolits so smoky...

Once your boolit is loaded there is not exposed lead.

Remember, grease lubes offer no protection to the back ends, so why would you need it with PC?

Grease lubes (depending on the ingredients of the brew) can lead to additional smoke beyond that of the powder you are using. PC, from my observations (and nose!) does not contribute to the smoke content.

Sure wish Balta would bring these back some day! I know he's probably on to bigger and better things, but this seems like a mold that would offer so many people greatness! I was planning on getting one last year, but as usual other obligations got in the way. Might just stick with the Lee 356-125-2R for now. At least for now.
