Who Has Boyd Stocks? Lets See Some Pictures.

What make and model gun are we talking about? I have several of their rifle stocks, 1 on a Mosin Nagant and 1 of their custom stocks on my Howa .300 Weatherby, another on a 98 Mauser, and 1 on my Rem. Model 722 in .300 Sav. Very nice stocks that need some fitting or none at all. I would post pictures of them, but alas I lack the computer intelligence to do so. In other word, I`m computer stoopid!Robert

I am planning to restock 2 rugerM77, tang saftey long actions.
I built one as a 25-06, & 1 as a 270 win.

This is a sporterized Mosin Nagant in a Boyds stock. I did the glass bedding.



This is a T38 Arisaka, re-chambered in 6.5x55 Swedish. I did the glass bedding in this also. It is in a Boyds walnut stock.



I like their prices and their workmanship. And they're nice folks to deal with (which goes a long way in my book).

Hi guys!

I called Boyds stocks and asked them a few questions. Firstly, I told them I was left handed and have always shot right handed bolt rifles. Most stocks I can shoot just fine with, with the exception of rollover cheek pieces.

Ideally, I would like to stock my Ruger M77, Tang Saftey, with thier "Prairie Hunter" stock. But am unsure if it would be comfortable for me.

I wanted to ask them if they could inlet a stock for a right hand bolt, and put a left handed cheek piece on it.


When I talked to the Boyds stocks "lady", and she told me that thier stock designs would not be suitable for a left handed shooter! And that they dont make custom options for thier stocks.

Man! Now I am not sure if she even has a clue about thier stocks, or if I should just forget about ordering one! I am very dissappointed!

I even seen in the left handed stock section that they offer left hand prairie Hunter. And it says :

their catalog speaks highly of the offerings they have for lefties with right hand actions. Try internet ordering, she is clueless unless they dropped that option.

Finally got my Boyds Stock!
Man its awsome! Great color, finish, fit! I am impressed wih the quality of thier work/product.

I bought 2 of the Boyd's "hunter" stocks (pre finished and pre inletted) for 91-30 Mosins...they came in and were very nice looking...the ad said they might need a little "fitting" as a result of them using a "sample" rifle for the CNC inletting....that was all fine...only had one problem...The straight (stock) bolt handle was not able to fit and required some cutting and fitting and that was expected..because the stocks were not walnut but had a "walnut color" finish I called Boyds (do't think they have an e mail address) on 2 occasions to simply ask what finish color they use and might suggest since the stocks were finished...never got an answer nor a call back...went ahead and did the best I could but was not really pleased with their lack of customer service...they make a nice product and the 2 I bought would have looked much better than I ended up with if there had been just a bit more reply. I'm not a wood worker..I can do a little fitting but matching finish to basic white hardwood isn't my cup of tea...small gripe but I'm old and like to complain now and then.

If you have a Mauser kicking around that isn't "collectable" or "vintage" or "rare".. LOL.. You get one of Boyd's Stocks, a Timney trigger and watch Richard's Rifles video on glass bedding and with a little initiative you can make yourself a really nice shooter.

From what I have been told, boyd's make all of the factory laminate stocks out there today.

I stocked a 48 with a Boyd's walnut stock. Someone I knew used a laminated Boyd's and it was very nice, too. If the bolt handle is stock it will work. If it's been turned down you'll need to inlet it whch isn't hard if you can be patient with he process and then it will still work. I added pillar and glass bedding and had to open the barrel channel for a heavier barrel. The inletting wa opened upa little to give room for a sufficiently thick layer of Acra-glas gel. If it isn't opened up enough (1/16" minimum clearance IMO) a high spot on the wood could interfere with the bedding or make the glass too thin. I also glass bedded the bottom metal to get it flush with the wood. The new barrel is free floated. Brownell's has some thick Polyken tape that is handy for free floating a barrel. Put 2 layers of it on the barrel and it guarantees space between the barrel and stock.

The stock barrel channel is for a stepped military barrel. There is an area where the step was located that wasn't competely cut away to accommodate the new barrel so if someone looks very closely from above they can see a tiny spot where the front of the step was located. I built the rifle and don't see it unless I'm looking for it. I didn't care for the factory finish and needed to make an alteration anyway so removed it with paint stripper. It came off very easily.

The alteration was to cut down the rails on the tang to reshape the stock and eliminate the fragile "ears" on either side of the rails. The stock was refinished with Tru-Oil.



I'm very satisfied with the accuracy of the rifle with a plain walnut stock. It was sealed all over with Tru-Oil to reduce the effects of humidity changes. It shoots under an inch at 100 on a bad day and under 1/2" when I'm up to it so I don't think a solid walnut stok is a hindrance.

Here's one I just got, my first Boyd's, it exceeded my expectations by about five times. I would have preferred a different finish but this is what they had ready-to-ship.

Only fitting I needed to do so my "Pawn Shop Mauser" would fit was make a slot for the bolt handle (bent down) and open up the military barrel channel at the front of the stock with sandpaper. I glass bedded it and added a Timney trigger with side safety then Tru-Oiled the stock. I`d buy another stock from them in a heart beat.Robert

I have two Boyd's stocks, currently on Savages, but would heartedly recommend for any rifle. The first is a 110FP tactical rifle that I put a Tacticool on. Sold the old plastic stock for 45 bucks, so I have around 80 dollars in it. Not a bad turnaround. Last 3 sets of 5 shot groups averaged .414 with this rifle.

Second is a Classic on a 7mm Rem Mag 111 Hunter that I bought from Walmart for 200 bucks a couple months ago. THen I turned around and sold the plastic stock for 90 bucks and bought the Boyd's to go on it for 110. Both stocks are action and pillar bedded.
