That said, the OP did jump to conclusions, but there are established conventions with dry tumble PC and it just so happened that the items he chose to do it with just don't work. Although I'm still not sure how his bullets appear so glossy, but perhaps it is the light.
He said HE got it at HF, then admitted he had no idea what the powder was. And then changed his story mid-stream about the powder again.

That is why it is glossy. I have taken many pix of my ESPC matte black slugs and they NEVER look glossy like that!

Experimentation is good and most welcomed here. We all share our successes and failures. But to totally slam a process in the title of a thread, when you are using unknowns for the 1st time you tried it, is not that welcome.

If he feels it is not for him, that is his prerogative. But there are hundreds, perhaps THOUSANDS, of us on here that do it quite successfully (using the KNOWN materials, tools, and techniques) with ESPC and DT all day every day every time.

Daniel, try some Hi-Tek coated bullets. They work well, are easy to coat, and the users don't often get overly excited if you say you don't get satisfactory results.
You will learn far more at the casting, loading, and shooting bench than you ever will at a computer bench.

We usually help eachother out after we get done making fun of your first attempt (which everybody seems to screw up)!

I think all the hostility came from the thread title. It's about like posting Ford sucks, or Obama sucks on Facebook. People get defensive. It does not bother me any. People can choose whatever way they want to do things. That is what makes our hobby fun. Really the only reason I read the thread, was to see why he was so against my preferred method. I'm new and have never used traditional lube, or hi tek. I also have no desire to try them either. With repeatable results, no lead, no smoke, cheap, and great accuracy I figure why try to fix what's not broken. I would be more than happy to share anything with anyone on here. I learned it all from you guys.

I think some guys came down on Jr a little hard but what I really notice about him is his humbleness. He didn't get all defensive, accepted the criticism as constructive, admitted his mistakes and moved on, pretty mature in my book.

Yeah, they did come down on him pretty hard. 1st rule of powder coat is you don't say bad things about powder coat!! Terrible Fight Club reference, but it's all I had to work with.

Actually Hi-TEK and his flacks go nuts if you critique the product. BSJR did act with class in this thread. As with everything, use what floats your boat. I agree with BZcraig.

My point is that not every method is for every user. The powder coat guys seem awful sure that it cures cancer amongst other ills.

Daniel posted that he wasn't impressed with the results he got. Nothing more. He made a personal observation and got hammered for it.

The powder coat users turn me off to the idea more than the benefits will ever encourage me to try it.

"The powder coat users"... I'm a powder coat user.
I have been identified, judged, labeled and stacked on a shelf with "my kind".

    How amusing.

I am also going to be a Hi-Tek user as soon as the zombie green hits the US. I put my name on the list about a month ago for it.
It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I get good results with Black by warming up the boolit to about 140 degrees and then dry coat. Too hot and it will cake, too cold and it will not stick. A bit more sensitive to temperature than the other colors. With a little practice the Black works well.

Isn't that a line from the movie Tombstone? Seems like I can hear Val Kilmer saying that. Great movie too.

I wonder if a "hi tek isn't worth it" thread would turn into a flaming mess like this, lol. Even if the op admitted later it wasn't hi tek he used, lol.

    Probably.

I view the coatings, either one, as a possible tool in shooting cast. They are not the final answer for all situations.

I won't be coating cast for rifles, those will get traditional lubes.

The coatings keep then cleaner, that is my only appeal. I don't care about that in a rifle, just handguns with the larger round count they see.

Is this the wrong place to say that you don't need a $75-$250 oven for either of the coatings?

That would be extravagant and controversial. You are liking you $30 unit form Walmart as I recall.

No, it contributes to thread drift which is quite fun sometimes. Mine was 50$ and I learned the hard way that the convection feature only works on one setting. I like apple cider also
