    Federal 40 S&W NT brass

Just a heads up. I encountered some Federal .40 S&W brass today that was marked federal NT 40S&W. The NT apparently stands for non toxic, and it has crimped in primers. The flash hole is noticeably larger, too, but I don't know if that makes any difference, just something to be aware of.

I've reloaded it in 9mm no problemo.

It's been around for at least 5 years. The Coast Guard was shooting it for awhile on our range. It's no big deal.

I've been using it to swage into .44 and .45 bullets, since the case weight is extremely consistent.

    Hope this helps.

Having to stop and ream the primer pockets is a pain, though, and there were only a few of them so I pitched 'em.

I too have tried to ream or swage them in 9mm or 40 's and just scrap them. Not worth the time and agravation. Also encountered some Rem. 9mm with crimped primers. Seems some milspec loads are being sold with crimped primers. afish4570

I find a lot of Winchester 9 mm & .40 brass with crimped primer pockets, sometimes I swagge them and sometimes I pitch them.

In range brass that I've bought, I've come across 9 and 40 NT cases in Fed as well as Win.
I cull them out. They may be fine, but the larger primer hole is enough of a discouragement for me.
