Load data to keep 40 S&W out of long barrel subsonic.

Bought one of the Mechtech uppers for a glock 22. Any data in a book is for a pistol. Using cast 180s and min data in Lyman cast book still pushing past that barrier.

One of the lowest velocity they listed was Unique at 4.6gr for 926FPS, there were a few other powders showing slightly lower velocities, but not ones I have. I know they have a minimum, can you safely go to 4.5 or 4.4 to get the velocity down? Or am I going to have to buy a 200gr mold?

Try about 3.7 of WST or Bullseye, they both reduce well.
Look up 40 S&W Minor loads on Google.

    Here is one liked.

I'd try trail boss @ about 60% of "loaded" case capacity. Read up on how to determine your cartridges powder space. NEVER COMPRESS TRAIL BOSS.
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

3.5 gr to 5.2 gr of 231 is sub sonic out of my 5" M&P Pro and 5" Tanfoglio using Lyman's 175 gr 401638 boolit. I have also used Titegrop at 3 gr - 4.6gr under the same boolit and out of the same guns.

    Take Care

Problem is gonna be anything thats subsonic out of a 5" barrel probably isnt out of a 11" barrel. Not sure trailboss would cycle a weapon. Found a load on Hodgdens site using clays that worked and cycled the gun.

3.5 gr of 231 will cycle the gun and certainly remain sub sonic out of the 11" barrel using 180 gr bullets.

I shoot a 200 grain cast from a 3.43 inch barreled M27 Glock at 750 fps with 3.8 grains Unique.

You can definitely back down on Unique if you want. I have no idea where the threshold of cycling will be, but I would be surprised if only a little below starting load doesn't cycle.

Try 3.5 grains Clays. Clocks 850 fps out of my Glock 22 and is reliable and accurate.
