    105 grain 38 special Big Lube(tm) bullet

The only Big Lube(tm) 38 bullet right now is a 158 grain long nose that is too long for some 38 special guns. So I'm thinking a lighter version is needed. 45 2.1 has drawn up a version for our consideration. I was originally going to go with a SWC design, but decided a truncated cone would be easier to cast and would eliminate the gripes about the feeding problems of a SWC. Please see pic . I was also thinking (dangerous, I know) that it should be cut to drop at .360 so as to be useful in all those 38 S&W pocket pistols, and maybe those Webleys too.

Please help educate me as to the reason for the huge lube groove, I'm real curious about the reasoning for it. BTW, will this be a good boolit for an old S&W M10?

The big lube groove will help with guys that want to shoot black powder, or black powder substitutes, by virtue of the extra lube keeping the fouling soft. It might also help with shooting it in longer lever gun barrels where smaller grooves might just plain run out of lube by the end of the barrel. I would expect it to shoot quite a ways off the fixed sights on a Mod. 10, (one of my favorite guns), which are generally regulated for around a 158 grain boolit.

Good idea. Got a Camp 9 a bit ago, this may be perfect. 'Course, I'm in on the "Slippery 9", but what the heck.................

I really like reloading 9mm. I have no idea why. This looks like a great crossover concept.

Dang, didn't even think of 9mm. And I'm in on the Slippery too. I suppose this would hit harder than the slippery, with that flat front and all. Not that I ever hunt with a 9mm.

Thanks for the info, I knew there had to be a good reason for the amount of lube it'll hold.

looks good for 9mm. . . .any reason not to run this in a 9 that I am unaware of? what time frame are we looking at. . . i'm starting to run myself thin with all these group buys

Well, I'm certainly not going to be asking for any money before Christmas, I have kids to buy stuff for. There seems to be a bit of interest in this design, and I haven't posted on any Cowboy or Blackpowder sites so far, just making sure there were no problems or suggestions for a different design. Since I haven't heard any complaints, maybe in a few days 45 2.1 can post a pic with actual measurements on it just so we all know exactly where we stand.

Do you think this design would feed in a .357 mag levergun? Is the meplat large enough for safety in a tubular magazine feed arrangement?

Bro-in-law shoots cowboy and might be interested.

I'd be interested in a .358-.360 diameter version. My Hi-power works better with .358 boolits anyway, so I could use it in .38s and 9mm.

I know the lee 105 swc does real well in my sti trojan 9mm so i would have to think this bullet would feed even better. I dont know how knowlegable you are with semi autos so dont take this wrong if you allready know but it will about certainly require a lighter spring in your gun for function though.

appreciated Lloyd! no worries about the advice, cause i had no idea. I almost always just stick to standard weights in the calibers i shoot
