    Hey, .357 maximum, lubes

I shot a lot today and found Satan's lube best and it equals Felix. MML did the same with the other boolit, a little larger groups. All targets were the same with Satan's best.
These represent what I had across the board.
This was my 330 gr .44 boolit. The 265 RD showed the same results.
The MML was not bad but there is a difference.
    Shot at 50 yards.
    I like the Satan lube.
It was cold today, fingers still tingle. Attachment 97811

Notice there is also a difference in the poi. This has held true with Satan's, very, very close to Felix.
You just can't go wrong with it.

A lube 357 maximum has come up with, you can find it with a search.

    Jim

Glad you liked it...as much as you like FWFL...... I thought you just might.

MML does better in those guns/loads that require a bit more "friction" to help the "burn" such as my 15inch 357MAX...MML shines a bit better in THAT situation. Satan's Lube really shines in full velocity rifle loads. In my search to get rid of the "exotic" microwax I found pure and simple happiness...glad you like it too.

WAYNE ---here is the recipe for Satans Lube...basically the OLD PRE ALOX NRA FORMULA with some soap added, nothing ground breaking...does not need to be..... damn good boolit lube is simple when you remove the "tinker factor" and emotion from it.

Melt the vaseline/parrafin and add the ivory soap flakes into it til fully dissolved and the foaming stops and the globular formations are no longer, remove from heat and then add the beeswax last after the mix has cooled a bit to prevent the dreaded beeswax "scorch". You wanna do all this in a pot a bit bigger than you think you need...the soap makes stuff foam up a bit.

    6oz vaseline
    6oz paraffin
    6oz beeswax
1 oz dried ivory flakes (foodprocessor) (you can double this if you live in a hot area or will be shooting in a hot area)

Thanks for the pleasant comments Jim .....just my attempt to simplify the world.

......the sucky part is I basically ignored this little treasure for about 3+ years in search of better/bigger/more complicated things.....I finally made it back to semi-sanity though.

I've been using it lately and agree it does very well in both low-pressure handgun and rifle. I subbed in 2 ounces of Fluidmaster toilet ring wax (must be FL brand to do what it needs to!) to add some long-chain hydrocarbon mixtures back into to the sterile, white Vaseline. I think I threw in a tablespoon of white mineral oil too.

My cooking advice is to fully melt the soap with the Vaseline/paraffin until it is a clear liquid, above the melt point of the soap. Then remove from heat and stir until it gels into a light grease. Then add the beeswax when it's below 300F, use a $5 candy thermometer to make sure so the beeswax doesn't get scorched. Let the beeswax quench the mix and when it's all blended well, let it cool. A gentle reheat and remix helps get rid of lumps.

What I like about it is that it works in my 12K psi .45 Colt loads just as well as at 2400 fps in my .30XCB, mainly because it isn't too sticky and flings well.

I know it felt good from the start. Funny how a feel is so good.
It works, it works, I love it.
I am still going to try MML in the 30-30.

I have made this the same way as quoted in my instructions 4 -5 times now and have not once seen any lumps of any kind.....are you seeing the clear gooey " phlem like lumps" like when a simple lithium grease is used or is it the white crusty sodium kind of lump?....are you possibly getting the initial mix hotter than it needs be????? I only get it hot enough to blend, not hoTTTTTTTTTT like when you are creating a grease from scratch.

Stuff hard to find or expensive kind of does not fit. Seems simple works fine.
I agree with Gear, keep the beeswax at a low temp. Only melted. Beeswax and any lanolin should not be over heated.

I agree. Watch heat. I think it is most important. How? I just don't know.

Actually it is pretty simple Jim......just follow the directions....when you give it a few minutes off the heat, then add the solid beeswax in the mix cools rapidly and by the time you get the beeswax melted you are almost out of heat....a few minutes later the mass congeals and starts to solidify......a feller that pan-lubes will like the way this lube acts when cooling.....I was still doing a fair amount of pan-lubing when it was invented (well re-invented/tweaked).......you do not need a "lab" to make this and if one is careful SWMBO will not even know you did it in the house......it is non-toxic and it does not smell like an engine fire when being made....if it does...you have it too friggin HOT.

Like lithi-bee lumps, Mike, or like the pearls in small pearl tapioca. It's a problem from fully melting and re-gelling the grease like you suspected. If I don't it ends up grainy like porridge. A simple remelt makes the fully-greasified stuff blend like pudding, no problemo. Man, now I'm hungry....

All paraffin is not created equal... try this stuff if you want the lube to stand up to a bit more ambient heat:

Don....I use standard Gulf-Wax canning paraffin...the soap is what helps in the heat....fancy waxes are simply not needed.....the whole idea of this lube was to make it a one trip to the local beekeeper and a quick stop by the local grocery store......PRESTO...you have the lube making supplies. A few minutes cooking and TADAAA...you are bout ready to shoot.

If you think you need more heat resistance...then I will 100% agree that you think you need more.

I like your 6,6,6 & 1 too Mike! Matter of fact I shot it this morning at a balmy 31º!
Tomorrow I'm going to 2950fps in my ol' Savage .22 Hornet! I think it might make it with 11bhn boolit and all.

Here's five this morning from the Savage .25-20 at 85 yards. You know, that one to the left wasn't a cold start...... It felt good too... Must be the guy behind the trigger! Oh well.... 9/16" ain't bad for an old Model 23!

To add soap or not to add soap... that is the question. Personally, I don't like adding soap but prefer to add high temp/pressure red racing grease instead... but I digress and your point is well taken.

Go forth and maketh thy Wally World Special Lube.

BTW, one can purchase red racing grease at Wally World too and the 163F paraffin that I linked to is cheaper than beeswax.

I will take groups like that anytime...that shot to the left was likely caused by the "butterfly effect" ....a butterfly flapped his wings in the Amazon and made that happen....it is what I blame it on anyway.

Yes one can, but if one decides to cook it too near/in the house one can also get his PP whacked by SWMBO'ed.
